Cajones, although dated and a console application, tends to do a good job splitting prg (and chr) when outputting to the "PasoFami" format (PRG and CHR split with an FRM).
P.S.: The rule of thumb for repro compatibility is to make sure the board has sufficient size, in the case of FF2J, you need to find an SNROM cartridge with a 2Mbit game code...In the case of the US the only cart sufficient without aditional wires is Hillsfar AD&D (ouch)...Unless you are willing to wire a Bomberman II (quite uncommon) or Kid Icarus (unnessecarily expensive).
Not to discourage any advanced cartridges, but for a first repro, I would recommend just socketing an NROM cart. Easy, Simple, and you can see what could possibly go wrong.
I've made a Galaxian cart before, it was a simple one. I'm not scared off by some wire jobs. I've fitted large eproms to smaller sockets before.
I got a program called tnines and it seems to be doing the job well of spliting up the rom into pgm and chr (as well has the hdr but that doesn't matter).
I "was" making a california raisins on a pro wrestling pcb but my desoldering iron tip is just about worn out and it made a couple real nasty cuts on some traces of the pcb that where not worth repairing.
If anoyne has pics of a finished FF2 that would be great as I'm a very tactile learner and images really help me wrap my head around things.
