I am using READNES from a guy who made a flash cart, and it prints out the mapper and stuff and makes 2 ROM's, but......the program ROM is off. I have a board with 2x 256 EPROM's so I make it repeat the CHR four times to the file and the PRG twice, so they should both be the same size....But here's what it says:
Character Size:32.0 KB (32,772 bytes)
Program Size:32.0 KB (32,834 bytes)
I have no idea why, I am thinking the program may be putting the NES header inside the file or something like that but have no idea.
If this software isn't good to use, what can I use to make a CHR and PRG BIN file to put my game on this AVE cart?
Thanks guys! ^_^
Edit:
I am not going based just on the (wrong) sizes, I was checking to make sure the reset vector was there and it wasn't, so thats why I check them.
Just do things the old fashioned way with a hex editor.
And that is......delete 20 bytes? XD
Aren't *both* file sizes (CHR and PRG) incorrect? 1024*32 = 32768.
Hmmm yeah thats true didn't hit me to check the other either....
Well anyone have any other programs to make a .NES to 2 bin files?
Edit:
Re-arranged the ROM's code a little and got the CHR rom the right size....
But now the PRG rom reads 32.0 KB (32,802 bytes).....I think I may have found the problem, though....More re-arranging.

You can use
cajoNES or
NESimage to convert a ROM to the three-file format used by Pasofami: header, PRG ROM, and optional CHR ROM.
*cringes*
NESImage is where DiskDude! came from.
Which is why you use it only to convert from iNES, not to iNES.
"By far the most versatile nes utility ever created"... These old descriptions make me laugh.
Sorry for not bringing this back right away
So I downloaded and read both of these files readme's, and neither say anything about making .BIN files for programming them to ROM's....Sorry, but if it helps I feel really stupid.....XD
I haven't worked on kaput on programming since....dang....forever
I just can't wait untill school's out to start prototyping and gettings progress on this testing stuff.....
You can also use the program 'ucon64' (though it supports a lot of other stuff too, you'd have to use -help -nes to see the NES-related commands). CajoNES should be just fine though.
It's not really splitting it to .BIN files because that would lead to weird filenames, most (all?) of these can split them to Pasofami format (an old emulator), which uses a .PRG, .CHR, and i think .PRM file (equivalent to the iNES header). PRG and CHR should be a normal EPROM size.
This is so eay to do using an hex editor (as long as the ROM is in iNes format, UNIF is a pain to work with)...
Ohh okay I get what your saying. I will do that.
yeah just to let you guys know when I start programming, I hacked a Duck Hunt cart to be a prottoyping cat and socketed the roms and cut a hole etc etc.....I am using a 2764 and 27128 for the PRG and Character, We have bigger roms if needed FYI ^_^......Im excited to start programming, heck I like seeing stuff work on consoles I may just drop the emulator period XD Nah not entirely, but every major build/feature addition will have a real run on hardware....I am so excited to start getting this stuff done *dies*
Hey guys, I got it work, it makes a good PRG file, but....the Character file is bad? It's off by 1 byte, but not just one byte, 1 byte inbetween some characters, so it starts off right and just misses one byte or something, it's after my $ character on it....Anyone have a different version that doesn't miss one bit/byte?
Edit:
I think it might be my program files, as 1 outputs 2 bad files, another 1 good one bad, and another 2 good :/
i re-wrote it and now it outputs a good PRG but bad CHR, But I realized I can just use the CHR file that TLP makes, so it's all good if the program comes out okay....Im putting my program on it just to se it work on a acual NES, It is so cool XD
