I thought I should celebrate the fact that I'm finally able to run my code on a real NES with
a small holiday intro.
Uses no mapper, 16k of PRG and 8k of CHR RAM.
It detects which video standard is used (I stole the code for this from Years Behind (With permission from Michel ofcourse)) and simply skips every 6:th frame if it's NTSC. But since I don't own an NTSC NES it's untested and should be regarded as a PAL only program.
It's very hackish and sloppy, but it works.

Great algorithm!!
Oh, yeah, we all overlooked the Christmas message in our geekitude, eh?
So, uh, God Jul!
?
Very cool!
Merry christmas, solstice, everything, everyone.
Works great on my NTSC CopyNES.
haha, I never thought anyone would run it for close to an hour (even I haven't done that), so I never bothered to make it behave well when it reached the top of the screen, but ofcourse that's the first thing blargg goes to do. I hate you blargg.
Merry christmas!
hehe, the snow falling kinda reminds me of a game called H2O by Webfoot games... except its not water. that is a sexy demo eh ^_^
heh. great demo and merry christmas / god jul to everyone ^_^
Cool demo! That snow effect rocks!
Merry christmas to all of you NESdevers out there
God jul og godt nyttår da. Men ikke noe snø
merry christmas and happy holidays to you all.
i'm new to this board (obviously) but that doesn't lessen the wishes.
cheers,
-bay
You could definitely find ANY other christmas song for this, I really cannot stand this one.
Aside of that, great demo ! Snow look really good. Unfortunately, there is no real snow here (maybe there is somewhere else ?) in Switzerland.
Oh, and this ROM definitely shows one of the supperiorities of CHRAM as opposed to CHROM !
Another guy was supposed to make some music for this, so I just whipped that one up in NT2 as a placeholder (I'm no musician (nor graphic artist) which is quite obvious). But since stuff came in the way and he didn't have time I decided to go with the placeholder. It's just a small christmas greeting anyway.
Anyways, I'm glad you guys seem to like it despite its shortcomings (and you haven't even seen the horrible code).
Now go make some christmas greetings of your own and reply!

For the record, I am impressed at how long the snow falling algorithm lasts, given that it only has to work for a minute or two (until 51 minutes, 25 seconds, it makes no glitches other than covering the text). It was this stability that made me want to find the limit and what happens afterwards (at least in my emulator).
A fix would have to make snow slowly melt, lasting the algoritm for even much longer.
Or, as Michel pointed out on ICQ, one could argue that after about an hour or so it's spring, that's why it turns green.
