- It's finally over. I got my NES unit this week. It's bigger than a SuperNES, and that system of slot-in a cartridge is... big too (if compared with a DS, hehehehe). Anyway, I have to point out some tidbits about a certain comparision between my new NES and my old Phantom System (PS):
1. The image: Looks a bit blurry than my PS, however, there's no "vertical stripes" across the screen, like a ghost effect, at every 10 pixels approximately. The palette is quite different: there's more green and the Battletoads title has clearly two kinds of green. That's why I was "shocked" when that NES NTSC palette came out within purple-ished colors, while mine had blue-ished colors (the sky in SMB is plenty blue, while it's partially purple in the "official" thing).
2. The sound: The "old" problem of swapped duty cycles on square channels. Since I grown listening the "wrong" sound, I like that way... but by playing a game in an emulator makes me to agree the sound is really better this way.
3. The lockout chip: Heh, I didn't know the effect of inserting pirated carts into the gray box. The screen goes on and off, or power on/off to be exact, quite annoying.
4. Tidbits: As any Nintendo console, there's an expansion port. No clues if it had/has some utility though... My controller was a sealed NES Max model - too bad that D-pad! It's easy to get blind during the gameplay, but since it was a sealed controller (for present days, it's rare) and I had no other option, got this one.
- I can provide pictures of my old Phantom System as curiosity, but guess it's unnecessary.
