- A famous european science labs are going to do something that might be dangerous - a pair of atoms will collide near the speed of the light. Such impact might generate a black hole or some dark mass that could "erase" the Earth.
- Heh, I'm sorry for possible english-translation distortion, though that's it. Perhaps it sounds funny, but what do you think about it?
ARGH! NOOOOOOOOOOO! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I never found out where babies came from!
blargg, I love you!
[Seriously now]
Microscopic Black holes are formed all the time, and vanish instantly, so I wouldn't worry to much. What's your source on this?
[/Seriously now]
Yeah, but it'll be amazing if they make that atom! World sucked into a black hole? Who cares, we'll make the atom! ^_^
Humans will destroy the planet eventually... getting sucked in to a black hole does not sound all that bad compared to all the other possibilities...
Anyway, sources would be nice.
i remember seeing a documentary on the history channel about this not too long ago. it was more about larger black holes found in outer space, but ended talking about particle accelerators and studying background radiation or something like that.
besides, maybe the black hole will lead to the creation of a new universe outside our own...
Lol, I'll probably be the first of Nesdev communauty to be aspired in the black hole since it's rather close to where I live (at least to mondial scale). Anyway, I'm pretty sure the black hole theory was build by scientists that oppose the project for another reason and that this is a lame excuse.
I don’t pretend to know much about it but that dose not seem like it would be possible with an experiment on such a relatively small scale.
If the earth dose get sucked in I guess I will have to find a differint place to keep all my stuff.
I don't know... there's a small possibilty that black hole will destroy the Earth, so I'm backing up all my source code to a DVD right now.
Better safe than sorry!!
I think if the world were sucked into a black hole, there would be no one left to care. I'm pretty sure the whole earth would be "Spaghettified", which is basically like everything is stretched out a whole bunch. And colliding atoms at that speed would probably just cause nuclear fission. But I don't know too much about it. Black holes are really strange, almost to the point where it just can't make any sense.

Actually all your stuff would technically be in the same place.
And yes you're right, there would be no one left to care. Hmm, I wonder if that Jesus guy would return to earth and save us just before we died... Nope, thought not.
I'm still hoping to be sucked in a black hole and then happen to be teleported to another dimention/world where you don't have to work in order to survive.
That seems like hopeless, tough.
Aside of this that sound like a really great scenario for a NES game : A mad scientist creates a particle accelerator to create a black hole and suck the whole earth in, and you must stop his evil doing blah blah blah.
What's up with all this well-reasoned scientific discussion? I always thought the point of such a colossal particle accelerator was to make childish dick jokes about its name.

I'm not prepared to go to that link, so what happens at it?
It's just a video of a naked guy with his stuff blurred out, and it's a spoof of the "Head On: Apply directly to the forehead" commercial. And "Hard On" is being applied to his blurred out junk.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
It's really not that graphic. If you would have seen anything really bad, I think it would've been flagged, and you wouldn't have been able to see it without logging in as an adult. I didn't even log in, so it was fine. Whatever the case, you probably don't need to watch it.
I guess that guy's not Jewish.
Well, we already live on the edge of one really huge one (whatever we have here in the galactic center of the milky way). So what's the worst a little one could do, form it's own little galaxy? Hopefully that wouldn't be so bad.
My life sucks and this world is screwed up so let it die!
Stop talking shit bout Earth, this world rocks harder that any other planet anywhere. I dare you dam Martians to prove me wrong, you cant because mars sucks.
Agreed, you cannot find any NES outside of the Earth, so the Earth is the best place in the whole universe by far. (and there is lot of other things as well that you can find only here, including humans, animals, etc...)
I'm pretty sure there are animals somewhere else inside this huge universe... If the earth did in fact hold all the life of the universe, I'd say life didn't turn out very well... humans are the worst parasites ever! If there was a way to get rid of only the humans, I'd be all for it. Yeah, I'm a Dragon of Earth (if anyone even knows what this means).
You should be a member of a dangerous sect then.
You know, I just thought of something. If all the animals decided to turn against humans, we'd be screwed. Because basically if they killed us, they'd be fine. But if we killed them, we'd be screwed, because the environment would be so screwed up. It really doesn't matter to the earth if we're here or not. But animals really have to be here.
You're probably right. While humans can help the environement sometimes (by clearing woods out, and cultivating earth, etc...). So without humans the nature would be screwed a bit because crap plants with needles and such thing would start to grow everywhere and insect would reproduce a lot more and so on. However without them all the pollution crap there is arround would be gone after a while, and that would overcome the bad part.
Overall I guess today there is by far more people screwing the environment than people that help it.
That's just applying for today, hopefully in the future it will be the other way arround.
I was thinking of it the other way around. Basically the earth would live on nice and happy without humans. We would probably die if all the animals were gone. But that is just a hypothesis. So I could be wrong.
When the day comes Earth is thretended by a something from outerspace, be is a commet, asterorid or space monsters, humans are one of the best bets for protectiong it. The chances of one of these things or something else happening is pretty good.
You're absolutely right. Humans can use their intelligence to do really great things, but they can also use it to do really stupid things (Kind of an oxymoron, but that's okay).

I never said the opposite. On the countrary, you find out something that most people didn't, especially in the country you're from... err forgive me for this one...

Maybe, be they still couldn't do much. Animals could do even less tough.
Also note that on most natural cataclisms, Animals tends to feel it in advance and run away while humans just stay here and then get lost. I always trough this was a fun fact. If you see all animals running around it's then best to do the same without asking quesitons.
We could not do much now but given enough time we might develop ways to protect it in the distant future.
Well anyway back to the experiment for a moment. Black holes are still just theory there is no solid proof of there existence. (evidence which point to there existence yes but not proof) If they do it would still require the energy of a star or similar to create one. If this experiment was to destroy the Earth it would be more probable that a large amount of energy could get released and blow us up.
