Do you need the CD in the drive every time you wanna play this? I'm thinking of download a 3.3 gig 10 day trial and then after that you must purchase it, but I am not sure if that way I can go without the CD which is a must for me really. Does a purchase copy provide you with nothing more than a CD key to enter or what?
P.S. Please don't post 'WTF do you wanna play WOW for?'
Edit: Grammar.
Probably yes.

If you don't feel like using a CD/DVD you can always make an image of it to keep in your HD and run it through a CD/DVD drive emulator such as DaemonTools or Virtual CloneDrive. Some games try to avoid that, but newer versions of the emulators usually manage to stay undetected.
When you purchase it, it comes with like 5 CDs I think. All of which are for installation. Afterwards, you don't need the CD to play it. I think it comes with 30 free days of play, which provides you with a key to register your account.
download the WoW & BC trial downloads. To my knowledge if you play on a private funserver or private blizzlike, it's exactly the same.

What about copy/pasting the text in an editor that features fixed font ?
Also why on the earth would you like to play WOW ?
Personally I'm quite against wow because I had a lot of friends who were fans of Final Fantasy like me but they moved to wow and have no life any more nor they do remember anything about FF, even consindering how much better the FF series is (was to be more exact).

Well, then you have people like me who are completely shaped and morally altered by Final Fantasy, and yet, still are huge fans of WoW. After how much FF I've played, there's no way I'd forget anything about it. Well, unless my brain got damaged somehow. But it's true that some people play WoW as their brain leaks out their ear, and they become hopelessly addicted.
It may be because my computer is too slow to handle it properly (1.5Ghz celeron cpu and an equally old and low end GPU that the details of escape me at the moment) but This game sucks for me. There is too much childishness from the outher players and the game itsself is tedious.
I played WoW. I can tell you that you do not need the CD to play. Because the game has no use unless you pay for an account, there is no copy protection. Similarly to you, I downloaded the trial, then bought it later. You just put in the CD key if I recall when you make your account sign up for a subscription. I forget the details but I do know that the CD is basically just to ease the install process/reduce what you need to download. This may not be the case with Burning Crusade the expansion, but your original question should have the same answer, no you don't need a CD inserted.
*Bump*
Well I paid £20 for it, and I played it for 30 days, and I can tell you that after all it wasn't for me. Why? No storyline + pointless quests = one very dull game indeed.
Agree. Depending upon other people sucks. And the fact you have to keep paying to play the stupid game. If you have to play an MMORPG, I'd say Guild Wars, because it's the only decent one I know that's a free subscription.

if only you had to put more coins in whenever you died.
Haha, that would be horrible... I've died like 1000 times in that game.
