I was just reading
the stupidest thread I've seen in a while, which led me to
this page. The guy is trying to make some sort of NES game maker, but he clearly has no idea what he's talking about.
You'll find perls like these:
Quote:
As for sound, it will take .wav; mp3; midi; wma; mp4; and convert it to nsf format when saving your progress as a rom.
Quote:
There where 255 total mappers made for the NES, if the 6502 chip was that open to expantions and continued on into the SNES and N64 then I bet we can make new mappers for the NES, infact some have already been planned.
Quote:
It will upscale the Game Boy's 160x144 to 240x228 so that most SDTVs can display all scanlines just as if it was the Game Boy screen.
Quote:
The Master System has two NTSC display modes 256×192 which is a smaller screen, and 256×224(Same as the NES)
I don't think he even understands what a mapper is. Plus he doesn't know how to code NES software, seeing as he was asking people to hack the PowerPak ROM for him.
I wonder if he ever posted here... I don't think this "project" was ever mentioned here, and if he ever does I don't think the result will be pretty.
I'm not sure what to think of all this. Part of me wants to laugh at this, but the other part is terribly sad. What do you guys think?
The nes roms only work if you have the DVD player.
You can tell this kid's uncle works for Nintendo.
Quote:
With a Console Game Builder's developer's license you can get 20% off the powerpak and 10% off the powerpak lite
I bet he's paying the difference, because somehow I doubt bunnyboy has agreed to this...
Terribly sad.
He has a youtube channel and he appears to be completely insane. BTW, I don't recommend watching any of the videos, but just in case you want to:
http://www.youtube.com/user/productions963
He talks about the ROM Maker project on some of his video diaries.
Good god, someone even less coherent than jargon... I lost braincells in that first paragraph
When I read the first sentence I figured it was just some overly enthusiastic kid, but this guy ew.
I mean I'm kind of a dumb shit and I don't pretend otherwise but this guy take all of the cakes.

- Perhaps he means a way to play MP3 files during the
emulation, instead of using the 2a03. I read somewhere about a guy streaming music from his MP4 player into a specific NES pin.
If I was this out there I hope someone would tell me.
To me he sounds like just another troll. Either that or he's got some severe mental disorder. Let's just hope he never shows up around here, because discussing anything with him would be a waste of time.
I remember reading something in Nintendo Power about something similar to SEUCK for the Famicom.

I'm betting on mental disorder. He's been talking about such projects for too long and went thought the trouble of writing all that text for his project's webpage and set up all that crappy merchandise (t-shirts and stuff).
yeah he once replied to one of my videos....he was basicly a huge dick. (I tried explaining him some things but he wouldnt really listen)
From Joe_Cracker on the thread tokumaru originally linked:

Don't you understand anything, I thought of that. NES Rom Maker takes nes rom code, puts it in a box and labels it. Your code box says "This is where the box is level 1 shows up." If there is a bug in the rom, you go back to the source file, use the 'bug catcher' and it will identify the problem, it may be a different code box called "Falling Rocks" because you some rocks falling during the boss battle. The bug catcher will atleast be in the full 1.0, and might not be ready when we send out the 0.1 beta.
Man, I'd love it if I could just run a "bug catcher"
I have a really hard time understanding what this guy writes. At first I thought english wasn't his primary language because of all the grammar mistakes, but no, he seems to speak english just fine (although he appears to be stoned all the time), it's the writing he has problems with.
Hey man, I some rocks fall during the boss battle.
Brain damage FTW!
Rocks fall, everyone dies.
I think we know what caused the head injury.
Bio Force Ape was fake. Someone went and made it real.
This NES game maker is fake. Someone needs to go and make it real. And I expect to work on a side-scroller maker after I 1. finish the Missile Command clone that Jeroen put me up to, 2. figure out how to efficiently test collision of a game object against a sloped surface, and 3. play through the copy of WarioWare DIY that I bought today to see how to make a game maker's UI.
EDIT: I can't count
I got into an argument with this guy a year or so ago. He tried to "hire" me to make this project and got all pissed off when i said it wasn't possible. He said he had it all planned out, he just needed someone to write the code.
Games Factory was nice, but it was far too limited.
Klik & Play had a better UI, since you did not need to drag in order to place objects. After selecting the object you want to place, Left click to place one object, right click to place more than one object. Perfect.
It was also lacking a tilemap editor for tile-based games. Seemed to be more oriented towards classic home computer single screen platformers than NES/SNES style games.

Personally, I'm against game makers, because very few people make good use of them. Most users are talentless people who can't spend more than half an hour working on a "project" before releasing some shitty game with reused and inconsistent assets.

I recently reached some good conclusions about that. Wanna discuss?

Personally, I think a combination of RPG Maker (tile-based map editing), and KnP/TGF/MMF (overall handling of... everything else?) would make a pretty decent UI for an overall console-style game maker.
The thing that bothers me, however, is the fact that many of these "Game Construction Kit" programs lack a good way to compose music, and this is actually something I've been trying to put a little research into.
Edit: The way I solved the lack of tilemap is by turning on the grid, and forcing everything to snap to it.

I don't know if I would personally have much to discuss, but I would love to read your method.
You've shown some great ideas around here and if you've come up with something better than the common hackish methods I'd be glad to hear it!

Those would be hilarious if they weren't so sad.

What's the objective difference between being crazy and being crazy with a mental disorder? This is a serious question. I ask because it sounds like the distinction between the letter C and an ink mark in the same shape; does the letter C posses something that the ink mark in the same shape doesn't?

A lot of them relied on standard MIDI files. Programs to compose those were warezed widely at the time. There was an extension for The Games Factory to use tracker music.

Which isn't exactly efficient.
blargg wrote:

The letter C can be represented in a way that is accessible to multiple ways of using text, such as text to speech, braille, or searching. A group of pixels representing the shape of this letter can't, at least without OCR. In addition, the letter C is easy to distinguish from c or [ or ( or С (Cyrillic for the letter S) or Ⲥ (Coptic for the letter S) or ⵛ (Tifinagh for the letter Sh) or ᑕ (
Canadagana for the syllable DA) or Ꮯ (Cherokee for the syllable TLI) or ር (Ethiopic for the syllable RE) or ල (Sinhala for the syllable LA) or Ⅽ (Roman numeral for 100).
Why didn't this Joe_Cracker land on this forum yet? (or has he? )
I mean if it's a NES rom maker, why on the atari age forum?

I don't know, I'm just glad he didn't.
I know MetalSlime warned against watching his "video diary", but I took a quick look. Definitely something wrong with him. He laughed after every sentence. Reminds me of the Joker. Very weird guy right there.

I suspect his reaction would be something like...
"Quit hiding behind your typed words and your avatars. And your silly user names"
This reminds me of that guy who claimed to be redoing Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the NES.
What a load of garbage, compacted into one extremely-concentrated Joe Cracker Jack Box, filled with shit for a prize!
I offered to help the guy get started with learning NES programming, but he didn't really respond. So I guess he either is giving up without trying, or is too attached to the misguided notion that someone else is somehow going to program it for him.

He usually doesn't respond accordingly. He is either ignoring what we say or he really has some sort of cognitive dysfunction.

I don't think he is willing to go as far as learning to code himself, his mind is really set on finding someone to do the dirty work for him. Maybe if he actually started learning how to code he'd realize how far-fetched his goals are.
Honestly, to me it doesn't look like he is capable on focusing on something as much as is needed for programming, so I don't think he has what it takes to be a coder. Actually, he doesn't look very smart either.
I think his reasoning goes something like this:
- A NES ROM maker would be AWESOME, DUDE
- An awesome thing gets plenty of donations
- Money is the only thing you need to get things done, so someone will code this for all the money I'll get from donors
- Voilà, I present you to the NES ROM maker!
(Dark secret real objective: I can easily plagiarize the NES games I like without a single assembly line woo hoo)
That's what I think too. He looks too naive to be thinking of stealing money from possible investors... I really think he wants to see this thing done, so that he can make his horrible fangames games without needing any talent.
He is the outcome of "you can do anything you put your mind to" and "you can be anything you want to be when you grow up" with a dash of "you're special" growing up.
