I've been trying for a while now, but I finally did it this morning: my first no-death run in Castlevania!
Dang man, that's awesome! What is your strategy for dealing with Frakenstine? I can never get past him.
If you have the holy water, he's easy. Unfortunately, the last place you can get the holy water is in the cavern, so you have to make it from there to Frankenstein without dying (and avoid the occasional axe upgrade that the fleamen drop right before you enter Frank's lair).
If you don't have the holy water... good luck. I've only beaten him without it one or twice and it was more about luck than skill.
I can get past the flea man area with the Holy Water no trouble, but I always have trouble killing the dragon skeleton things without the daggers. The one right before the door is easy, I just run under him
The dragons are easy with the holy water too. With the first one, for example, you should be able to catch his head with the holy water when it is at floor level. Just keep tossing them until he dies -- he'll never get a shot off. (Though, I usually have the II/III upgrade by then. Might not be so easy without those).
I agree Frankenstein isn't easy, but if you manage to get to him with full health, you can beat him with some luck without even using holy water. You can hit the flea man with the axe and whip Frankenstien, it works, maybe not ALWAYS but sometimes.
For the dragons you should just whip them continuously so that when they attack you the whip will destroy their fireballs. And of course nobody should fight the first one
However the REALLY impossible part without holy water is death. I man man, its the damn hardest boss ever. Maybe Death on Akumajo Densetsu is even harder as it's basically the same with two forms and no holy water trick, but they made it really easy in CV3.
Death was a joke in CV2 as well. I haven't gotten to him in CV1 yet
hah, nice.
I'm still working on having a no-death run of Goonies II. The closest I've gotten was a no-continue run. Goonies 1 too, I usually end up dying at least twice, and it's annoying me to no end.
I've gotten pretty close in Duck Tales (with the pogo fix), just one death.
A no-death run of Castlevania seems like too much work though; at times, Simon seems to have a bottomless-pit homing device attached to him.
I can get to the hallway before Frankensitine without dieing without an issue, but for some reason I go dumb there. Eh.
Good job!
I guess this outshines my *almost* no death run of Jackal?
I died once at the final boss.
I've finished Jackal a couple of times without losing a life (only very specific spots are difficult, you just kinda have to learn spots where the enemies are). The only game I can finish consistently (repetitively) without losing a single life is Trojan.
Also, incredible that folks haven't smashed their monitors/TVs trying to beat the Grim Reaper in CV1. Absolutely nightmare. That and some parts of Ninja Gaiden (first one).

WTF?
I hardly can beat that game.
And you made "no-death"?
Congrats!
This is very, very impressive, to me, at least

Ok, I need to remember it.
A tough game I can do a no-death run is Bart Simpson's Escape From Camp Deadly on Gameboy. It's not what I'd call an excellent game but it's more playable than the Simpson games on the NES - You just go right and throw stuff with no cryptic obstacles or navigation, and it even has a few interesting puzzles (Namely the Treehouse Bullies).
I think I managed to get to Death without dying. That's all though. Congrats
I finally managed to no-death Goonies II last night. It really comes down to knowing where the items are, and knowing Konami Man's locations.
It's an accomplishment to finish Castlevania at all, let alone without dying. It was one of the first NES games I picked out as a kid, and I didn't get past Death for a very long time. I always remembered seeing that clockwork screenshot on the box, so it was pretty amazing to see it when I finally got to that level.
So now if someone can just play through SMB Forever without dying...
put up a video on youtube:

That's a borderline inhuman accomplishment. I haven't been able to finish that game (without cheats/GG codes) *ever*. I have a very deep love-hate relationship with the first one, which is probably why I love the 2nd one so much. It sounds like Memblers and I are in the same boat -- we're lucky if we can make it to Death, and even if we can, the chance of beating him is slim to none.
So congratulations -- what you've done is *absolutely* an accomplishment. :-)
It wasn't until a couple years ago that I was able to routinely beat Castlevania 3.
Congratulations !!
Personally no matter how much of CV1, CV3 and SCV4 I play I'm always stuck at Death (in all 3 games).
It's a good thing Konami stopped to make Death so much impossible in the latter CV games. I still remember it to be hard to beat in Aria of Sorrow, but it was nowhere as hard as in CV1/3/4.
Never really played Castlevania games
..too hard.
I have beat Life Force and Metroid in one life back in the day. (Metroid was using the trick to skip Kraid and Ridley.)
When I first beat Castelvania I was happy enough to make a video

God that was hard.
So far in real life, I've not died once!
Castlevania's jumping was the worst I ever saw at the time. 99% vertical, 1% horizontal.
