Um... isn't
this CNR
OM? Is that just a typo, or is there something I don't know?
When you build your own development cartridge, you can substitute in RAM for ROM. Using RAM makes it easier to link with a computer and send new code to the cartridge.
If you've ever used a SuperCard or M3 adapter on a Game Boy Advance or Nintendo DS, or if you've ever used a Famicom Disk System, the same thing is going on in a RAM based NES cart.
What they said. My devcart is made from an "Athletic World" cartridge, replacing the PRG and CHR ROMs with 32KB SRAM chips and a few SPDT switches (one for mirroring, and another for PRG write protection).
When programming it via CopyNES, I can give it both mapper 3 (CNROM) and mapper 0 (NROM) ROM iamges, where it simply mirrors the content between all of the banks - for all intents and purposes, a CNROM cart containing the same 8KB of data in all four CHR banks is the same as an NROM cart.
As mentioned above, the name "CNRAM" stems from the fact that the original cartridge used the board "NES-CNROM-05", and I've replaced the ROMs with RAMs, so it's now effectively "NES-CNRAM", or "CNRAM" for short.
Oops. Yet again I didn't think adequately before I posted. I realized the reason for that non-typo very, very quickly after leaving the forums. Please end this discussion about devcart fundamentals and move on to the actual testing of this game.
Why was this topic split? It was just a minor misunderstanding on my part. Please feel free to lock or delete this thread.

Digressions are supposed to be split after they take over the discussion in a given topic.
