Is anyone interested in getting a CopyNES?

There might be another production run.
Oh boy am I interested. Sign me up.

I will buy two, if that is allowed. You might want to drop a line at CherryRoms, NESWorld, DigitPress, AtariAge, and a few other forums frequented by people interested in NES and Famicom hardware.
How much will they be, and can I get one with a RAM cart?

Better yet, how about a RAM cart with a custom PCB, SRAM, battery, and a bunch of sockets for real mapper chips? A special CopyNES module would select the mapper and SRAM settings before loading the ROM. Such a multi-mapper RAM cart and a CopyNES together make a much desired NES copier

Two words: "Fat Chance". That would probably require more design than the CopyNES itself needed.
I don't know what the price will be this time.
I missed the first run, but I'm definitely getting one this time. It'll be useful to me for testing/repairing Squeedo carts after they get built, in case a BIOS update ever fails before completing (a reset vector of $FFFF could lead to some BRK-dancing, heheh).
Most NES mappers have their registers in the program address space, and there aren't many exceptions other than Squeedo and maybe MMC5. So a RAM cart with a mapper would need a way to know the difference between being re-written and handling mapper register writes.
I'd definalty be interested in the schematic and binaries (or source if possible).
I'd be interested in adding/expanding CopyNES for sure. I just need something to get me started.

How does the CopyNES dump the ROMs to begin with? I thought it needed special mapper-specific code for dumping a game using a specific mapper. So putting ROM data back onto a cart modified to have RAM in place of the ROM would require mapper-specific code, right? So reading ROM data is just as hard as writing ROM data?

The CopyNES has a parallel port on it, via which it communicates with your computer. When you want to dump a cartridge, you upload a 1KB plugin to the unit which instructs it how to dump the cart (just a program that writes to the mapper registers, reads data from ROM, then calls BIOS routines to send the data out the parallel port).
Modifying a 'mappered' cart to support RAM would require some very significant changes - namely, a way to 'unmap' the mapper (and enable writing to RAM) so you can write to $8000-$FFFF without having it switch banks (conversely, to make it so writing to the mapper registers does not modify the contents of the memory), as most sophisticated mappers will disable the ROM while writing to $8000-$FFFF in order to prevent bus conflicts.
If you're gauging interest, count me in. I'd love to have one, at any price.
Would be interested in one with a RAM card, too.
But must early enough know how much it will cost.
I possibly will order one then, because it will save me alot of work.
Which mapper does the RAM cart use?
Jagasian wrote:

NROM; i.e. no mapper. Though, in this case, it would be more appropriate to name it 'NRAM'.

I bet CNROM to CNRAM would work also. The CHR banks would swap like mad when you load the PRG, but that shouldn't be much of a problem.
Would UNRAM work?
Also, when you set pricing, remember that we're competing against the DS guys for attention. Nintendo DS homebrew is relatively affordable: a 150 dollar system, an 80 dollar GBA flash card, and a 20 dollar adapter, and you're all set to run homebrew.

Probably only in the highest 16kB bank, with the other bank it would be a race between the write and the bankswitch (that couldn't be a good thing).
Yeah, I'd really like to get one.
I would love to get one too
unfortanetly I don't have any money until probably august
I know this hasn't been replied to in over a month, but I'd be interested in purchasing one. If I could get one with a pair of nvram's or sram's I'd be set.
Little late jumping on the bandwagon, but I'm up for one too. I was considering building one myself, I didn't know he had produced quantities of them.
Memblers,
What is the status of this new run of the CopyNES? How many did Kevin want to sell?
How many CopyNES's do you have for sale in this run? Also, how much will they be sold for?
Hello,
I'm not sure if its to late but if the price is reasonable, I'd like to purchase two (will settle for one) CopyNES'. I've started programming the NES and would love to see my little programs own my own NES console. What kinda of stuff can you put in 'em. SRAM would be very nice. Anyways....
Just sign me up if you can
Alright, yeah I'll talk to kevtris is about this soon. He was away for a little while, so probably has some stuff to catch up on.
The only thing I can say for sure is that I want one (and soon likely will need one).
I think it will be made though. I'm just helping him to organize the potential orders a bit.
Oh man, I hope I am not too late. I'll take one. Add me too the list. I"ll check back everyday.
Here is the CopyNES sign-up thread over at NESWorld:

Kevtris has posted in it recently. He says he only needs 10 pre-orders before he goes to production. Anyone who hasn't signed up yet should consider doing so, unless you want to buy one for twice the price a few months from now
