Does anyone know the type of socket that retroUsb includes in their copyNES USB kits?
I've been working on installing copyNES. Because I am new to desoldering, I ruined the 2A03 on the NES I was modding. I also accidentally broke the IC socket that came in the copyNES kit ><
So I ordered a replacement 2A03 here:
http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl (search "2A03").
And then I bought a standard 40-pin socket at Rat Shack.
I soldered the new socket onto the NES motherboard and then plugged in my new 2A03. I popped in Monster Party and it worked perfectly!
Next I removed the 2A03 from the NES and moved it to the copyNES board. I then pushed the copyNES board into the socket of the NES motherboard. I pushed really hard, literally until I drew blood on my thumb.
The copyNES did not fit into the socket. It does not fit into the socket.
Apparently I need to get the EXACT socket that came with the copyNES. That or solder each pin of the CopyNES-NES connector by hand. I'm not too interested in that second method. It's bit cludgey and I hesitate even as a last resort.
