when i play Big nose caveman with Nes PowerPak in 3rd stage and any later stage the screen flicker.
its very difficult to play.
i have last 1.35b2 beta mapper with last loopy mappers and savestate 1.5
i have no problem with others games difficult to run: startropics 1 and 2 run perfect.
Thanks for help.
Big nose is one of my favorite game and i use the nes powerpak in travel. i dont have to bring all my nes cart.
sorry my english is not great. THANKS
thanks i post there too.
IMPORTANT NOTE: i said flicker, but im not sure i use the good word. the problem is the screen move up and down very fast. LIKE A EARTHQUAKE !! LOL So i become very dizzy. its not very funny to play this game like that. I have the original game and it dont do that. i think the screen cant stay in the center of the screen, and the problem happen. ANYWAY THANKS FOR HELP
The screen shakes when you break the first rock on the level. Is that what you're talking about? I don't think that's a Powerpak bug. It also happens on emulators. That mapper is very simple, there's not much that can go wrong with it.
[edit]
Since I'm looking at mapper 71, I went ahead and fixed Fire Hawk.
wow Loopy answered my topic. really nice. i always want to say you thanks for loopynes several years ago, i played so much with it.
I know when you break a Rock a earthquake happen. its not what im talking about.
Go throught the 2 first stages. after that go to the shop guy. after that the 3rd stage begin, play that stage, before tha half way the screen will become to become unstable. it cant center the screen. sometime the screen go up and sometime it go down. this bug will stay like that for the next stages too. its really annoying.
when the bug happen, the upper part of the screen will become black and empty and a few seconds later the screen will go up and the black and empty space will happen at bottom of the screen.
I hope you understand the problem. i know my english is not great.
Thanks for answer again. Did you correct bug in the mapper ?
can i download the new mapper somewhere to put it in my powerpak folder. Thanks again
edit: I JUST downloaded your last mapper at your web site and the problem is always there. But its begin ONLY at stage 3. i dont have to hit anything it just happen in the beginning of stage 3. screen begin to go up and down every 4 or 5 seconds.
Sorry, I'm not seeing this problem. The game works fine for me.
very strange. i will try another rom.
EDIT: i tried several roms. the problem always there.
in stage 3 sometime the screen go up and down very fast for 2-3 seconds too like a earthquake.
its look like a sync problem. how can i be the only one to have this problem LOL
the game become really unplayable.
I HAVE THE ORIGINAL GAME , AND THE ORIGINAL GAME DONT DO THAT.
Thanks people for help if possible.
Do you have a DVD recorder or a USB video capture box for your PC?
AAAAAAAAahhhhh VERY STANGE.
ITS ONLY DO THE PROBLEM WITH A CRT TV not a LCD TV
But the problem dont happen with the ORIGINAL GAME on a CRT TV.
i will post it on youtube.com in 5 minutes
Is there any way you can confirm the ROM on your cart is the same version as the one you're running on the PowerPak?
If they used the $0D color black, maybe that has something to do with it. If so, you could hack the ROM to replace the $0D palette entries with $0F and see if that fixes it.
I don't know why it would be different on the original cart. I had often seen glitches when running games on the PowerPak, but it normally only affected a single scanline at a time, and hasn't happened in a predictable way that I've seen.
Its bad, im not hacking anything.
The only think i can do is use hex edit.
anyway i will live with the problem. LOL
thanks for help
Could it possibly not be the ROM or the PowerPak. Is there some sort of flicker or refresh that the game does that is affecting the TV. Like the horizontal hold on the TV is slightly sensitive to something in the game you cannot see with the naked eye but creates the TV to jump.
yeah its a possibility
i just tried the official nintendo RF Cable same result. same problem.

How can i do that. i know how to use hex edit. i used hex edit in the past to hack several emulators speed with handheld
i search 0D , im am still not sure what to do with it
i tried more than 100 roms. no problem with others except for Big Nose Freak out. anyway i dont like this game. But this game has the screen problem very strongly. completly unplayable. its terrible.
Still dont worry i dont like this game at all
To hack a palette, you need to find where it is stored in the ROM. The easiest way is to use an emulator that lets you view the palette while the game is running (not only the colors, but the actual byte values).
So if the first 4 bytes of the palette are $0D,$10,$15,$2B (just random numbers for example), use the hex editor to search for that pattern in the ROM. Various games could be different, but normally you would expect to find a bunch of sets of 4 colors, in a format like: background color, byte 1, byte 2, byte 3. Find that pattern, and hex edit it. But the different palette sets could be scattered throughout the ROM also, or may be stored in reverse order, it just depends on the program.

Wat.
Anyway, I'd be surprised if the problem isn't $0D. Maybe the version on your cart is a later revision of the game that fixed the problem. But we'll never know unless you're able to dump it somehow (TapeDump maybe?).
thanks for answer. i think i understand.
But finally the problem happen WITH ALL CAMERICA NES GAMES that are installed on the powerpak cart.
some have the screen problem worst than others.
Very strange. no others games are affected.
the only original Camerica nes cart i own is big nose. and it work on my crt tv.
still i will ask my father to check my crt tv. hes a electronic technician
Big nose with my Wii nes emulator fceugx , has not the screen problem

Try the game "Immortal", it also uses the color $0D, I had problems with it on my LCD TV.

I LOVE Big Nose the Caveman
2 differents games. the 2 games have the same problems.
But ALL CAMERICA games have the same problem.
but Big nose Freak out has really his screen completly freak out LOL its worst than Big nose the Caveman
I PM'd you a link to a patched version of the game with the colors changed.
IT WORKS PEREFECT !! No more screen problem. i played several stages.
Im really Happy !! i really love this game.
THANKS A LOT LOOPY !! What a great gift !!
i bought this game when it was released 20 years ago and i always love it
LOL when i had 10 years i was always playing this game.
Long live to LOOPY !!!
- Long live to Loopynes
- Long live to pocketnes ( i play with pocketnes even today with my visoly flashcart and my gba sp)
without you the nes wont be the same.
I REALLY APPRECIATE IT !!!!!
Im glad to see Loopy has fixed this for you, but I still would love to find out why you are the only person to bring this issue up surely your not the only one playing Camerica games on a PowerPak. Well I know your not I play MicroMachines often and a former GF of mine was obsessed with Bignose and she had no problem playing it from what I remember.
yeah its very strange. i dont have Micro Machines game. I didnt try the rom too. maybe it has the screen problem.
i tried 6-7 Camerica games on my NES powerpak, all of them have this problem.
dont forget i only get that problem with my CRT TV not on a LCD TV.
Still my CRT TV work perfect and its a expensive model of the time.
great image quality. no blur with 2d games
i cant play 2d games with a LCD too much blur in action
i tried micro machines. micro machines have the screen problem too. its worst than big nose. anyway i dont play much that game.
I tried both Big Nose Freak Out and Big Nose the Caveman until stage 3 or 4 on my old trinitron tv and I must say that I didn't have any issues with them beside the game sucking big time imo
its strange indeed. Big nose freak out is completly mess up at first stage, really unplayable. its like a earthquake that never stop. and yeah this game sucking a lot. LOL but i love big nose the caveman. this game has a lot of challenge and its fun
Micro machines at first race is worst. the screen completly go up until i see it appear at the bottom, it did that very often during first race.
about Big nose the caveman, the screen problem happen when you dont touch any buttons. the intro have the screen problem. i just notice it some hours ago. Anyway the patched roms made by Loopy is 100% perfect working order.
