this may be a weird question to some, but i was wondering if it were possible to stick a nes cpu and ppu into a playchoice 10. i have someone who wants me to rgb mod their nes and i was wondering if i could the playchoice 10 up and running afterwards using the bits i strip out.
thanks in advance
The CPU should definitely be possible, as I think there's little to no difference.
The PPU on the other tentacle, would be a lot more difficult. As the NES PPU is designed to output composite video and the Playchoice board is designed for an RGB PPU. It would probably be doable with some modifications, but I can't say how feasible they are. It might even be possible to use the video/sound daughter board of an NES to do most of the work. (But removing the board is such a PITA, it might be easier to make your own.)
yeah thats more or less what i thought. i have a composite -> rgb converter sitting around so i think i should be ok on that part, and if not im sure i can find one. i may have to try it if i can get my hands on the playchoice and report back some findings. id assume they will be something along the lines of "i think i fucked it help me"
Probably the best thing to do would be to compare some schematics. Then you'd have a better idea of exactly what the differences are. From there you could work on designing the mod.
