I decide to load up an old favorite, Gyruss. I read through the manual. It literally consists of two pages of text and one image. The text just tells you the difference between the two control modes and what the buttons do.

Except, it got it wrong. The manual has the buttons reversed. I wonder if the japanese version has the controls opposite of the USA version? I can't get Nestopia to load FDS files on my Mac for whatever reason to test this.

I just played for the first time in who knows how long, and I made it all the way to the Sun, only to game over in the second stage of the Sun. The game actually seems pretty easy now. I remember struggling to make it past Earth when I was younger.

Yeah, gyruss was always one of my favorite nes games. I always enjoyed the music it played.

If anyone is LOOKING for certain repro/homebrews, I have a running repro company thread going as well as a lot of extras myself which include Limited Editions as well.  I'm also free to help answer questions and point people in the right direction so never hesitate to ask!  Here is the current list of repro companies.  Please let me know if I need to update it:

Growing up, I always associated Konami with the best music on the NES, and Capcom with the best graphics. The music in Gyruss is pretty sweet, although there are only three(?) different tracks? Stage 1, Stage 2, and Bonus Stage, as Stage 3 just uses Stage 1's music.

I just completed the game. I definitely remember the final boss from when I was younger, so I guess I have at least made it to the end before. The ending sequence went by too fast for me to get a picture, then it looped me back to stage 1. I made it to stage 3 with my last ship for a final score of 902900.

Unfortunately, the game caps you at 7 bonus ships. I end up losing at least 4 bonus ships due to this since I don't normally lose one until halfway through the solar system.

I have it but I'm selling it, got too good at it as it's just boring as I just roll the stupid game. Shame it's not the arcade one, that one is harder.

I bought my copy for $3 from Ebay, and that was the reseller rate. I personally wouldn't even bother packaging it up for sale at that price.

You are right in that it seems rather easy, however the difficulty is maintained after it loops back to stage 1. The ships come out instantly after you destroy a group, and they shoot as well.

Yeah I know it does get more intense to a point but it does just kind of peter out until you get tired and screw up or tire of playing. It's a great game for sure, but I'm just beyond it now which is why it's up on the block.
