He don't normally play puzzle games, but when he do, he prefer Palamedes?

Been fun watching the tournament scores roll in so far. Good luck everyone!

I will give it a drunken spin to this tonight.
This week will be fairly crazy, with red days hitting hard and my competitive mood disappearing due to that, among other work insanity.

Don't expect much from me this time around.

So I'm playing Palamedes this morning, kickin' butt, and all of a sudden the game ends? There's an ending and FIN on the screen? What kind of proper puzzle game ends?

I see this is going to be a matter of min/maxing the hell out of runs. Ugh.

My reaction time is so slow on this thing, if only there was a scroll backwards function!

This game should be right up your alley because of your shooter skills.

Yeah, I like it.  Hadn't played it before last years competition, but it's fun.  It's already been said, but my only gripe is the having to stop to shoot.  If you could shoot while moving, this game would be a piece of cake!

Dang. I was one tile away from getting a perfect on stage 2. I'm gradually getting better at this.

I'm for sure familiar at AI. Palamedes just came naturally to me! And..... I've been playing it for two weeks now 😳

Now that I know what a "perfect score" is, my score changed significantly! Got perfects up to around level 8 or 9, and just did combos the rest of the way.

For those struggling to get a good score, I will say this. Ignore wiping out lines with combos and just clear all the dice naturally. You get a special bonus at the end of the stage if you complete it without any combos.

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

hush.

But seriously, without using bonuses, it's damn near impossible to get a decent score in this game.

I've found that the bonus is easy to get on level 1 difficulty. Hard to get on level 5.

Level 5 I can sometimes get two perfects in a row. Haven't tried for three.

I think I was able to get 13 perfects in a row playing by Tier 3 rules last night, and that was while simultaneously watching horror movies on my computer   I haven't tried Tier 1 or 2 rules yet, but I imagine it will be difficult to get perfects playing by Tier 1 rules.

Last night starting on level 3 (Tier-2) I think I got perfects on 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 (but fatigue started kicking in). I find that my best sweeps of bonuses happen when I'm fresh -- start with a quick throwaway game to get a feel for the timing, then reset and go from there. After a run or two of bonus abusing i'm done.

On the later stages, there isn't much of a margin for error or you get overwhelmed quick. A couple times, I accidentally skipped past a die number and found myself frantically trying to clear things out. Of course, the randomness of the game can either be a blessing or a curse. If you get a nice layout of dice on the later stages, you can clean things out quick.

Tetris, Puzznic and Palamedes are the only puzzle games that I can say that I actually enjoy off the top of my head. Klax wasn't bad either.
