So I am hunting down games that are only on carts, I likely will never get them all , games for the NES have been produced for years and I imagine titles have long gone, with their limited runs but looking to buy them.
Any recommendations on the best ones? If they aren't in stock, I don't mind, I can hope one day they might appear.

Thanks

Once in a blue moon, maybe.

Are you looking for stuff that is readily available from repro makers or the really hard to find stuff like the Garage Cart?

Either to be honest,  would like to start off with the best of the best cart only homebrew. I have my eye on basse def and the jay and silent bob as more recent ones, no idea if they are any good though. Where I can, I prefer rom but I would like to collect as many as possible cart only games.

Thanks

There are some great threads that provide some thorough lists of homebrew and discussions of which are worth collecting.

These are the games I found myself putting the most time in. I'm more into arcade, action, puzzle and platformers so you might notice a trend.

- Micro Mages
- Super Bat Puncher
- Star Keeper
- Battle Kid 1 & 2
- Study Hall
- Lucky Penguin
- Twin Dragons
- GALF
- NES Virus Cleaner
- Legend of Owlia
- Nebs n Debs

I would like to try this one at some point. I've heard so many good things about it, but as a sokoban clone, I just can't fathom the hype .

Clone or not, I think the Incident is very aesthetically pleasing and well made. I believe it does have some original level designs as well. As far as hype, to each their own. I love the Sokoban style puzzler so I'm a fan either way.

Get a copy of Tailgate Party while they're easily available. I freaking love that game. Games don't need to be magnum opus masterpieces like Battle Kid, just a novel idea that happens to work very well. Streemerz (Action 52: Volume 1), Alfonzo's Arctic Adventure, Black Box Challenge, and Cowlitz Gamer's Second Adventure are some more very high quality games that haven't been mentioned yet, although they're mostly available cheap/free as ROMs. I can't think of TOO many games that are top games, locked to cartridge, and haven't been made available for digital release.

Check out the currently available homebrew thread:

It's just a King's Quest clone. I can't fathom the hype.
