Ratings key:
10 - One of your very favorite artists of all time.
9 - Killer fucking band.  Or artist.
8 - Great sound, great songs, great albums.
7 - Very good, but not quite great.
6 - Pretty good.  More than a few songs you like.  You'd entertain the thought of seeing them live if they were in the area.  Or still alive.
5 - They're okay, but maybe not something you'll go out of your way to listen to.
4 - Meh.  There may be a song or two, or an album that you dig, but you'd rather listen to other stuff.
3 - Not very good.  You will more likely than not turn the station if they come on the radio.
2 - Not your cup of tea at all.  Some people like this, but you are not one of them.
1 - Horrible in every way.
0 - In the running for worst artist/musician of all time.  You would rather take a cheese grater to your face than listen to this.

7.84 - Michael Jackson
7.50 - Alice in Chains
7.23 - Earth, Wind & Fire
7.16 - Faith No More
6.83 - Journey
6.66 - Prince
6.33 - Eminem
6.09 - Weezer
6.02 - Daft Punk
5.57 - Ghost
5.42 - ABBA
5.31 - Madonna
5.28 - Devin Townsend
5.00 - Lady Gaga
4.66 - Avenged Sevenfold
4.61 - Sex Pistols
4.53 - Bruno Mars
4.47 - Nightwish
4.33 - Linkin Park
4.10 - New Kids on the Block

I remember listening to I Wish I Had an Angel back when it came out and thinking it was kinda cringey back then. And I had relatively cringey tastes.

Nightwish with Tarja is one of my favorite bands of all time. Oceanborn is one of my favorite albums, probably my top 5. Nightwish with Tarja is hard to put your finger on as far as genre. Maybe say a mix of traditional and synth heavy power metal fronted by a legitimate soprano.

They have always been very polarizing in the metal world. I reside on the edge of favor, personally. Though I don't acknowledge Nightwish after she was fired from the band. To my ears, she was the most important piece that made them tick, regardless of whether she was a complete diva bitch to the rest of the band or not.

They've had 3 different lead singers. You're gonna be in for a debacle with actual Nightwish fans here.

Fun fact- "Bye Bye Beautiful" is a nice diss track to their first departed singer.

I put 8, I've listened to them a lot and they're one of the few bands on my car playlist. Tarja was obviously the best singer (is that not obvious? I seriously don't know if that's even a controversial opinion) but I dig songs from every era of the band.

When they had Tarja they were legendary. Wishmaster was a masterpiece. Unfortunately she couldn't see that her music career existed solely because of the band and Holopainen. Afterwards that new chick was aight. It was different though. It became all about orchestration and just some standard boring singer. Apparently there's another singer now. Who knows. their time passed 10+ years ago. I will say that having Marco Hietala take over male vocals was a major improvement.

edit:  also, those videos at the top are almost exclusively shitty nightwish.

If you want songs from Wishmaster you are welcome to post them.  Every week I have to make a judgement call.  I got 4 songs from Tarja, I figured that was good enough.

hear hear.

The links i posted Are good representations of Tarja era Nightwish. (Aka the only Nightwish that matters). All 4 albums are highly recommended to those who love loud guitar and drum driven music. Girl could seriously sing.

Give em a 2. I can hear the talent but it's far too operatic for me.

I played a hell of a lot of Runescape when I was younger and that was my first exposure to Nightwish. There was a bug exposed in the game that allowed player killing anywhere in the world which caused people who would normally be safe to lose tons of high value items. There was a video of this set to Nightwish's Planet Hell and that really kicked off my enjoyment for the band. I really only like the albums with Tarja, so I'm scoring based off of those albums. I'm giving them an 8... Partially for nostalgia reasons.

Fun fact, Falador Massacre occurred June 6, 2006 (6/6/06). Even though this was probably the biggest bug in the game's history, Jagex (the creators of Runescape) celebrated the 10 year anniversary of the event where they made an area where you can player kill each other and it's set to a MIDI version of Planet Hell.
