Okay,I'll start with the serious scores. I'll premise this run by saying it was going great until I royally F-ed up early on stage 1 of loop 3. It was a totally moronic death. I pretty much played stages 1-3 completely stock and my lives dwindled from the high 20s to 6. I was able to recover in stage 4 and power up quite a bit, then fully power up in stage 5 (where you really need it) until I got careless and crashed into the floor trying to kill one of those ship sprouting pods. With the stock ship, you don't last long in loop 3 of that part of stage 5. So pissed. A great run that turned into garbage. Ugh. Anyway, the first gauntlet has been cast.

924,990 Stage 5,Loop 3)

Aww. The NES Classic sitting on top of the big NES is adorable.

Nice scores you and Gloves. I might just practice DD2 this week. I doubt I can compete at Life Force. I dunno.

Lol,before I modded it I hardly ever used it. Since I did and put tons of more games on it it's my go to "console". So easy to just pick up and play and the user interface is awesome.

Added an intro to the first post. Didn't have anything written up until a little bit ago because I spent more time working on the Team Bimmy vs. Team Abobo conclusion for Ice Hockey. Enjoy.

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

I am not sure if I will be very competitive this week (in a realistic way). I am not sure how much I've ever played Life Force. I'm also on the road for work, so the PSP is my practice platform.   I see some pretty good scores already... I may be up for some Super Bomberman R on Switch   LET'S ROCK!

Crashed into the fucking wall on the speed part on 4.  Real nice.

I had never played this before a few days ago.  And did this in like 10-15 runs.  So I expect this to get me about 11th place.

At least I got participation. This is about as far as I've ever gotten in Life Force.

That's the most difficult part of the game right there!

Legendary Wings is probably easiest once you're fully powered.

That's a whole lotta nope right there Mbd! I'm good at this game and won't make top 5 from the looks of it! This is a super slow shump!
The music however is fucking epic😝

I second the music.  I may have a soft spot for Konami games on the NES, but I absolutely love the music in all of their games.  Life Force has a really good soundtrack.

Mega Man may be my favorite franchise but Konami is by far my favorite publisher. They cranked out so many awesome games in the nes era.

I will give this one a spin tonight, but my focus this week is Double Dragon 2 and starting to validate an mathematics the hell out of the memory dumps I got late last night from those Marble Madness saves Krunch sent me.

Updated my score on page 1. Turns out those bastards get some friends in loop 2 lol.

Looks like I have some catching up to do. Soon...

You'll get there. Lots more enemies in stage 5 in the latter two loops. You can really point rack (legally) in that stage on both loops. I'm really not sure what theoretical max scores are on loops 2 and 3 but they are definitely much higher than loop 1. Maybe 10k-20k on each? I'm not sure.Β

Great score out of the gate! I can't wait to see what you put up by the end of the week!

I've never played past the first loop and it's been awhile since I've even cleared that. Long attempts kind of bum me out too since it's hard for me to fit time in these days. I think I'll be able to post a respectable participation score.

Just pause it and take a break after each loop if you don't want to play the whole shebang.

If I can loop the game I'll probably have to do this.  Or stay up super late!

You'll be able to loop it, with no problem.

Making it through the first loop without dying isn't particularly bad, at all.
(only the escape sequence at the end is risky/tricky, IMO)

I gather the later loops ramp up pretty quickly, but the first loop was a breeze when we had a 1-life contest a couple years ago.

I watched a playthrough of Life Force and the escape sequence at the end reminds me of Battletoads. It looks like you'll definitely lose some lives there until you have it memorized. But you'll probably have a bunch of lives by that point anyway.

Yeah, that escape sequence is why I was glad when we played it for the 1-life contest, there was no looping.

There is one gate-section toward the very end that I'm not sure I ever managed to clear without crashing.
(might have made it once)

Playing through all of your lives, though, I don't think that section will be make-it-or-break-it compared to optimizing your score in something like the fire spout stage (where some of the hidden bonuses were pretty tricky to snag)

Yeah I'm 0-for-2 on that final gate. Unlike Battletoads, you only have one go of it each attempt, so you aren't forced to memorize it. Also, I'm always comfortable rocking 2 speed upgrades in these games (any more and I feel like I'm out of control). I think you probably want max speed for that part

I had fun with this game so I might actually give some real effort towards placing this week. I'd like to at least clear 2 loops, which is probably do-able if I have time for an attempt or three each night

When you get to the end sequence, you can just stay at the top of the screen. The first 10 or so bars that come at you you'll have to be to the left/right a bit, but everything after those you can sit in the middle and never get hit at all.

Plus side: even if you die once or twice on this section, just go to the middle at the top of the screen and you'll lose 2, MAYBE 3 lives, and make it to the next loop. Loops start over with your weapons etc. all back to zero anyway, so aside from maybe a few lives lost, no harm done!
