If so it would be one of those cases where they simply decide to make an example out of someone. People download terabytes of bootleg media all the time yet the people you always see arrested downloaded like 4 songs and 1 movie. Stupid.

The big boys have better things to deal with/worry about than someone downloading some retro games to play and enjoy.

It's the other way around for why the get arrested. They get arrested for sharing, not downloading.

If the 4 Terabytes of Blu-Ray rips sitting on my hard drive are any indication, I'd say you'll be fine downloading a game or 2. or over 9,000.

I don't think so. There are dicks on craigslist that have been brazenly selling consoles loaded with pirated software for years.

Non-issue. Now if you were burning copies of all the latest games and selling them then you might have a problem, but this stuff....no.

The only time I ever got a complaint from my ISP was when my brother attempted to download one of the "Jackass" movies without asking me. So when I got the warning letter in the mail about it, I was like "WTF?? Did someone hack into my connection?" So I had to interrogate my brother and he confessed.

Ironically later on when I switched to a new ISP, they accidentally assigned me a banned IP number that someone else had tainted with illegal activity. I had to call up and get them to fix me a new number.

Doubtful anything would happen. They usually target distributors in most cases it seems.

Something I have wondered about though after reading an article awhile back on piracy is how much of the stuff distributed comes from internal sources? The article I read regarding movie piracy basically made the claim that a lot of the movies that get leaked online are done so as attempts at some type of corporate sabotage or attack. I have wondered about this with games also. Your competitor releases a big game and you are worried so you upload their content online to deprive them profits. This could backfire though as some kind of reverse marketing scenario haha. Thoughts?

Untrue. The using/downloading of a ROM is also copyright infringement. Has anyone been arrested? Not that I'm aware of, yet. I've seen my fair share of C&D letters though, from both sides (hosting/downloading).
