IMO
This happens much more often than the casual collector may realize. I briefly touched upon this in my eZine article a few months back about treating NES games as a stock market of sorts. One of the categories I used in rating a game's future value is its "indirect appeal", meaning does it appeal to people outside of the NES market.
Oddly enough, I know that at least my Goonies II and Beetlejuice NES CIBs from my sell-off went to non-NES collectors. The Goonies II buyer sent me a message asking "Do you have any other Goonies II memorabilia?" and the Beetlejuice guy had a screenname similiar to classic_movie_collector (memory fails me).
So basically, screw those damn Monster in My Pocket collectors for driving up the price of a little toy figure
