Very nice list. Had no idea half of these existed. I'm planning on collecting guides soon so this is an excellent resource to have.

I was looking through some of my stuff. I noticed my "Mastering Nintendo Video Games" has a slightly different cover. Different font it looks like. So I'm not sure if you guys care about that varaint... but if so... there you go.

Oh and also, the Gameboy one is my other guide. I know this is just a NES list, but I thought I'd share a pic of tha as well.

NintendoTwizer: Wow, that Game Boy guide actually brought back memories. I remember reading that once or twice when I was a child browsing guides at a Crown Books. Something new to find.

Very nice work boys. One thing you might want to note is that the consumer guides come in both spiral note book form and hard side form. I have almost all of them printed both ways. Thanks for the list saw 2 things on it I don't have. Grrr!

Also, what about stuff like these?  Note the variant covers for number 2 and 3.

Honestly I never really thought they should be included as they were magazine subscriptions. I never noticed the variants though ... Looks to be newsstand and subscription variants maybe? UPC on front...

Agreed, I have them both ways as well and was going to mention this. Also, what about the box set for the "How to win" books? And the "Classified Information" booklet?

These were available at Toys R' Us as well, not just a subscription. I think if you allow the GamePro ones, these should definitely be part of it.

Added the Ultimate Strategy Guide to SMB and ordered me up a copy! Very nice...

And surprisingly the 101 Nintendo Secrets and all new books don't cover NES

How many games do they typically cover?  Were the gamepro ones part of the subscription as well?

I was thinking about that before and just didn't include them.  I guess technically speaking they are variants and we are going for a completionist list.  As far as the classified information goes, I see your point and I will add that as well.  The box set, well, I guess it should go up there as if those are your photography skills they need to be listed

Holy smokes, I never realized the 101 books weren't NES... hard to believe I never even opened them (ok, yeah it is... I collect more than I read or game .

I'm not sure if those were part of a subscription or not, but they do cover multiple games. Come to think of it, the more I read on Game Player's, the less I understand their structure of releases. Not sure on the GamePro ones, whether or not they were part of a subscription.

The box set was just a Googled image. I can take a pic of mine if needed... I seem to recall posting it on NA at one point, but I'm not sure where it is.

EDIT: I've also attached a pic of my other gaming books since I pulled them all out to see what I was missing from this thread.

I never even knew they were subscription. I bought them all at Toys R US when buying games. #1 still has the Toys R Us price tag on it. They each cover around 75-100 games.

Maybe they weren't subscriptions...?  I'm assuming as they seem to be pretty numerous and look the part.

Any differences between the buyer's guide and strategy guides?

Awesome list!

I'm also a huge fan of this stuff and attempted to make a similar list back in 2005, but didn't get anywhere close to completion at the time (you can see the list here, last updated 2007 although it has some non-American releases in there: http://www.rfgeneration.com/forum... ). Thanks a ton for sharing the info & scans. How hard is it to find that Official Book of Ultima guide?

Re: Game Player's guides discussion, I can't comment on the strategy and buyers' guides, but they did release "Game Player's Encyclopedia of Nintendo Games" volumes 1 up to at least 7 (with a major cover variant of the 1st volume). These are extensive guides with tons of info in them and were, as far as I know, only sold in retail outlets.

@Dain: I made the same mistake with one of the 101 guides

Btw, there's both retail & subscription versions (with & without blank white address field) of the Nintendo Power Strategy Guides.  Also, what about adding the "4-Player Extra" guide from Nintendo Power as a multi-game guide as it specifically provides guides for 4-player NES games?  I attached a few scans of the 4-player guide and the store vs subscription variants.

BTW, I've been modifying the database and search engine to be more non-game friendly for additional categories. I've got a lot done, and here's a glimpse using the first set above:

Very nice!  I do like the look of your end result listing with the thumbs.  You wanting to do mostly just game specific guides for the systems? Or looking to incorporate it all like multigame books and the such?

And a side note to everyone, if you have scans of the game player's guides and / or the encyclopedia ones mentioned a couple posts before this one ... I could use them to save a little time
