Emulate. Or get the NES on FPGA that isn't released yet. Other then that, running through a converter may be your only choice. But I bet it would lag and wouldn't look as good.

No lag, and it will look okay, but you might need to drop the resolution a bit to fit the screen. Light guns don't work with LCD/LED just so ya know. You need something like this...but it will only give you sound, out of one side, until you split the audio, to both right and left, meaning, mono only. http://cgi.ebay.com/6ft-DVI-I-Male-3-RCA-Component-Vide...

That won't give you any sound.  It is component, not composite.  Notice they are Red - Green - Blue, not Red - White - Yellow.

Couldn't you just use a capture card?

It was suggested to use this:

Seems like a smooth bet to me.

Capture cards are used to record gameplay directly off your TV. That would be fine if the OP wanted to record, but he just asked for a way to connect the NES to a computer monitor.

You can also use a capture card to watch AV on your monitor. You don't need to be recording.

It's worth a try if your monitor has a female vga input.

I think that one will only work for out.

I use this capture card:
http://www.pchdtv.com/
It works just fine, but it's a tad expensive.  Sound also has to go seperately straight into your soundcard or speakers.

Edit: in fact the adapter you mention only works for output in special cases when your computer already can output rgb signal.  It definately wouldn't work for input directly to a monitor.

All he's needin is a Male RCA component out, to a Male VGA in. That $3 Adapter I suggested will work. Most monitors are Female VGA. All you will require after that attachment, are standard RCA cables, as they dont make that adapter with with a Male end. NES>Standard RCA>$3 Adapter>VGA Monitor...Done deal. That link I sent ya is the one you need. He doesn't wish to "capture" or "record" video...he wants to connect old technology to newer tech. This is how (and the cheapest option).

I don't think that cable will work. It's made for VGA out to TV in. It's not made for VGA in. It would be used for something like a laptop with a VGA out, and you have to make sure your VGA out port supports composite. This cable wouldn't even work on all laptops.

As far as I know, you cant just simply go from NES composite out to VGA in. The signals are different and would need to be converted.  You would need some type of converter box, which can be costly. I am sure you could find cheap ones, but I would bet anything the picture would look like shit and have such a long delay you couldn't even play.

Hmmmm. Good Point^^Now I'm curious. I'm thinking of picking one up, just to see. $3 isn't a bad price for a trial run! My first suggestion, was gonna be, to buy a 25" tube Tv off Craigslist for $20-$25 bucks! I'll order one and check it out.

I wouldn't waste your $3. They make expensive converter boxes that do this (RCA to VGA) for a reason. It would be almost like taking one of these (coax to RCA), putting it on the end of your cable TV wire and plugging it into your yellow RCA jack. Won't work.  The cable signal still needs to be converted.

Yeah, I get that. But that's what that attachment is, it's a convertor isn't it? Anyhow, I already ordered it! lolz! Oh wells...My stupidity and $3 will know in a week, regardless now! I let yooz guys know if it works. I've used many attachments, in manners they weren't designed for. It's always a 50/50, ya never know till it's hands on.

Vito, I have a graphics card that has audio/video and RF input laying around. But if you want to go straight from NES to monitor bypassing the computer altogether, this wouldn't work of course.

Thanks Kevin. I'd like to go straight from the NES to monitor. I've got all the emulators and games on my CPU, but I want an original toaster in my game room that just connects to the monitor. Hopefully, I can find something!!!

FAIL!!

This is for output from computer to TV not input to monitor.

You need a proper converter they are about $50 and up and there is a great possibility of lag, jagged lines and bad picture quality.

How about the retrousb NES USBHID adapter and an emulator? Then you can play in HD with the real feel with the controller.

I've already got this duder. I just wanted the old school NES hook up in the computer room. I think I'm going to try this http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&... and see how it works.

Monoprice is <3

Hopefully that works out for you, the only hangup I've seen with some products like that is latency, but as this is one form of analog to another, hopefully it's not lagged.
