The rarity for a game is wrong. On every guide I've seen. Now with a new and ambitiously updated 3/5 Screw Rarity List.

Really though, I'm kinda surprised no one ever caught this. Try finding a 5 screw Goonies 2 on ebay. You won't. I know, because I look all the time. I found one, won it, then the seller told me his dog ate it. That's how rare it really is. Someone got me from behind because I got it cheap. At least that's what I think...

Point is, this thing is a lot rarer than the 2 that has been put on it. I don't know how whoever made the original 3/5 screw guide gauged the relative rareness of a game, but I'd say it should be at a 7 or 8. I think if you looked at 100 copies of the game in stores, you might find 2 that will be 5 screw variants.

I'm hoping you guys will disprove me with shouts of, "Nah-uh, I have a copy right here!" But I think what is really about to happen is people are going to see I'm right.

Goonies II, The (5 Screw) - Rarity 7-8/10
---------------------------------------------------------------

Update!
After a lot of PMs, I went back and looked at the list. I thought a lot of the top dogs were in the wrong positions, and have adjust accordingly. Here is the post and my reasoning behind the changes, which I've highlighted...

Alright, I went back through the list after I had a couple PMs. This is more what I think this thing should look like. To be honest, I'm only concerned and changed stuff that was in the 7-10 range. And, here is why and how I did the numbering for this list.

10 – I have never seen a copy IRL,
9 – I have seen 1 or 3 copies in person,
8 – These were the harder carts to find. You rarely see these,
7 – These can be found, but it will take a little looking,
6 – You can find this semi easily, but it might be marked up a few bucks, and
5 – Middle of the road, you should be able to pick up a copy with a 50/50 chance of getting either one.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at the Let's Play Gaming Expo last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

Oh, my WTB thread is very popular. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, Richard craniums - they all adore it. They think it's a righteous thread.
I'd also like to add that I've got my father's gun and a *scorching* price guide for aftermarket Nintendo games.
Between Dragon Warriors and nothing... I'll take Dragon Warriors - for any of my FT/FS/FO items.

I have never seen a five screw since I got back into nes around 99. The copy I got for Christmas when I was a kid was a five screw because I thought it was strange all of my carts were 5 screw except the Super Mario Bros that came with my system. I thought the 5 screw carts just looked nicer on my shelf. I was a weird kid.
In fourteen years of local shop hopping, I have never seen that one in a five screw or I would have upgraded mine. I don't see Goonies II very often at all, but when I do, its a 3.

Does it really matter seeing how it's the same game in a slightly different casing? Would someone really be willing to go out of their way and pay extra for the goonies II with more screws in it?

although i cant vouch for the rarity of it, since it was already in either my collection or my dupes when i decided to start collecting screw variants.

you must be new.....people pay more money and go out of their way for all kinds of minor variations. like different Seal of Quality versions, TM vs R box variants, and all kinds of otherwise insignificant differences.

I guess I can see why it would matter if you wanted a VERY complete collection. Encompassing even slight variations of the same cartridge.

See I already have the goonies II (3-screw). If I had somehow gotten another copy, even the more rare 5-screw version. I probably would have sold it to somebody for three dollars because I "already have the game". Like I knew some games were more or less common in 5-screw but I didn't think it had much bearing on the value.

My current mission is to try to come as close as possible to completing a PS3 collection.

If you can't tell by the serious tone I used in my OP, I can tell you that revelations like these can cause huge ripples in the collecting community.

You'll never have the variant of "To The Earth" I own with "BONE" written on the front in magic marker. It's quite literally one of a kind.

Sure you could try and make your own, but it wouldn't be authentic.

Outrider, you are contributing literally nothing to this thread.

For some people, variants are just their thing. Hell, NA member Paul actively sought-out a collection of NES games in the worst possible shape. There is no single way to collect, and you're on a collecting forum with a lot of members with multiple complete sets, some of whom are looking for a new challenge.

We get it.  Minor variations don't matter to you.   I don't spend mega bucks on them myself, but I do pick them up when I can and unload my 3 screw versions to cover my cost. This is a collector forum.  It doesn't say casual person who plays nes forum; it says collector forum.  Its starting to feel like you're thread crapping.  You said your piece; let it go.

It isn't like collectors are going to read your point of view and suddenly go, "OMG! He is totally right.  My Athletic World 1st print is the same game as the relabel.  I should sell it for the same price."  Variants matter.  Same in toy collecting, comic collecting, and stamp collecting.  If you don't like it, rest easy, it doesn't really affect anyone but the ocd collectors.   I refuse to medicate for my ocd so it affects me.

My Steel Brigade GI Joe figure was the rare gold helmet.  I sold it for over 300 dollars a few years back.  I sold my other one that was missing his legs for almost the same amount.  A regular non gold helmet SB figure is chump change.  I got lucky as a kid to order it during the right time.  Thank goodness for variants; it helped pay for some pretty heavy doctor bills.

I have had one I think. I definitely agree it's more like an R8 and way harder to find over time than other ones that are already classified R8.

Time to start digging through Goonies II carts. I know the one I have is 3-screw, and I don't recall running across a 5. I'll certainly pay a lot more attention from now on.

Nice! I don't think I've actually heard of anyone else with such a technically complete NES collection. There's a few people with all or most of the carts, or all the games in box. But every game in the box and every variant of every game? Damn.

Have you ever considered opening a museum?
