I happen to now own a copy of Zool for the Genesis. I popped it into my sexy Model 1 Genesis, played it for a rough 20 minutes, and now I am wondering... WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?

1. The controls are slippery and you move too fast
2. 60% of the screen is behind you
3. Enemies blend in with the stage, combined with the two, makes dying incredibly common

I just cannot justify how confused and angered I am. I cannot enjoy this game.

Weird, never heard of that game. I've heard of Zoop, but not that one that you speak of.

Check out this really awesome WTB thread that I found, I heard this guy wants games at the cheapest rate possible!  Now on the look out for Unlicensed NES!

Zool is this platformer where you play as a ninja. The first world is... some candy place complete with product placement from Chupa Chups. It was real popular on the Amiga, but Zoop is just a puzzle game.

I've played that game many years ago and I actually loved it! hahaha. I don't know why, but for some reason I found that game really enjoyable - maybe it was because it was so strange, heh. I haven't played it in years though, so maybe if I touched it now I would hate it, who knows.

I've heard some things about that game, it seems to have lukewarm reception. Zool is overrated in my opinion.

I will second this.  Came in a lot with my Jag.  Decided to put it on eBay within 2 minutes of playing.

I played it on the pc years ago I didn't know there was a snes version.. it ranks right up there with chex quest and sneak king.

If you have any GBA signage or kiosk I would be interested. Please send me a PM because I'm only here about once a month now but I'm still VERY interested in large system signage or small playable kiosks related to the GBA.

Just finished playing up to level 1-4. Honestly, it wasn't *that* bad. The controls on the SNES version are fairly tight, the music is pretty rockin', and the graphics (while totally wtf-inducing) aren't ugly or anything. Maybe I'm just used to really bad platformers like Wayne's World, so my tolerance for mediocre ones is fairly high. I definitely got pissed off when I got to 1-4, though. I was hoping it would at least be a boss fight, but it was just another candy land level. Turned it off at that point.

I definitely understand the feeling of "wtf did I just play?!". A ninja, in candy land, fighting bees and globs of jelly. WHAT!

I actually thought he was talking about this game also until I googled the title. Just by some screenshots the level designs look pretty good.

I used to own Sneak King, but just Googled Chex Quest... WTF? Why would you make a video game, er, rather, make a hack of Doom and turn it into a cereal based game, and attach it to a cereal box? Wouldn't it just be simpler to put it in the bargain bin of PC games at OfficeMax?

EDIT: Fixed for spelling problems.

It wasn't about the game, it was about trying to get people to buy their cereal. Slap a game to the cereal box, and the cereal is more likely to sell more.

I'm sure it was better on the Amiga. Chuck Rock, Turrican, and a few other games of that era just seem so much more playable on their original system (computer... whatever)

It sounds like it's gotta be better on the SNES than the Genny, too. I wasn't experiencing the slippery controls or problems seeing enemies that you were. Maybe it's just a little too colorful for the Genesis? Hehe.

I thoroughly enjoy Zool 2 on the Jaguar. Just seems bigger, better, louder, crazier than the first one on the 16-bit platforms. All in all though the gameplay is very quick. You have to really be precise and on-point to get through this game.

Considering it's one of the better games on the Jaguar, I'm not surprised someone here likes it.
