Hello everyone and welcome to the latest installment of the Weekly Contests!  This is the final game in this grouping of contests and next week will be a break week, so I've prepared a very fun and underrated platformer for you all.  If you like the NInja Gaiden games, then you will certainly enjoy what I have in store for all of you.  This week's game is going to be Vice: Project Doom.  Here are the rules:

  • EDIT : 1-life only
  • When you beat the final boss first form, your run ends immediately there, press on pause and take a picture of your score. You can't fight the final boss second form at all.
  • Highest score wins
  • Participation: 50,000
  • GENRE: Action/Platformer

The contest ends Sunday, 5/14/17 at 11 PM NA time.  Your user name MUST be written or typed on a piece of paper and be in the picture for your score to be valid.  The entire TV screen, or computer monitor if you are playing on an emulator, MUST be in the picture for the score to be valid.  No partial screenshots will be considered or accepted.  No screenshots by hitting "print screen" on a computer will be allowed.  You must take a picture of your computer monitor.  There may be instances where this will be acceptable, but it will be at the discretion of myself and the contest organizers.  Also, the use of turbo controllers is forbidden, as well as any cheat codes, Game Genies, slow motion functions, or save states if playing on an emulator.  Also, we will only be using NTSC systems for the contests.  The use of PAL systems will NOT be allowed.  Good luck everyone and have fun

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Oh man. I've been practicing with the one-life rule because of the 2011 contest and I made it to the last stage yesterday without dying. Play until life 0 is going to be a cake walk.

I've been thinking about this. It might be better to have the second final boss form be as far as you can go because you get almost no time to take a picture after beating the game. I guess that could be part of the challenge for those who want the extra points.

It has been a while since I last beat this one.
I will totally suck and might not make top 8 this time!

This game is super easy. You shouldn't have any trouble getting a huge score this week.

Also, killing enemies gives coins and you get an extra life for every 100 coins collected. So you'll get some extra lives if you do a lot of point pressing and not die. I don't think that the game ever throws enough coin bearing enemies at you to make an infinite 1up loop possible or there would have to be a rule change.

So you're saying if I find one, keep it under my hat?

You are forgetting to account that I am terrible at video games.

Hah. No. Because that would be cheating. I have some concerns, but I doubt that an infinite 1up loop exists or guill would know about it. Based on his performance in the 2011 contest, he knows this game very well.

If you can keep dying and getting a 1up indefinitely then we'll need to change to a one life rule. The game is easy enough anyway so I don't care. It's what I practiced for in the first place.

Don't be sorry.

I figured that this might be possible.

The best rules for this game are high score, one life only.

It would be annoying for those who are new to the game but all you have to do is keep practicing with all your lives and continues and then get as far as you can with one life.

Infinite point pressing spot:

Here's a photo of me with a pretty big score considering I'm only on 3-1. Boring, but effective.

I think we should play by who can squat the most weight or throw heavy rocks the farthest rules.

In all seriousness, low scoring may also work as well.

It's so much fun if you're into Ninja Gaiden style platformers. One of my favorite NES games.

It also has some driving and shooting stages that are approximately one million times easier than the ones from Bayou Billy.

The advantage to a low score, progress contest would be getting to rush through the game without having to do any point pressing as well as being allowed some accidental deaths. But I would still prefer one life, high score.

I didn't even think about how you'd have to run the timer. That _would_ suck.
