A:  "maybe, no comment"

I hope so, I'd pay for the game just based on how crazy it is.

The homebrew is the end result of one seriously epic hoax thread. To put it succinctly:

if we could get together and raise 1500 for mike tysons power punch, that kind of money shouldnt be a problem for a dump of this gem.

At the same time, this one cost $3K+ to purchase in the first place.  The asking price for a community dump of a high profile, unreleased on any format game compared to a released game with a few sprite changes I assume would be light years apart.

Come on, the ROM will eventually come out, and without some stupid fundraiser. This is not about money.

Nice to see that even with all the silliness of the hoax, there is still stupidity over whether or not the dump should be released, sold, etc.

Wow, you sound awesomely douchey.

This thread isn't some great debate as to the ethics of prototype owning/distributing.  If you read back through the two pages so far it's filled with post of "This is awesome!"  There's very little mention of the rom at all actually.

It sounds as though Frank plans on releasing the rom at some point.  Great.  No community dump, no reproductions, no hording, etc.  It's a scenario that everyone can be happy about.

So did you get a ROM image of it or a physical cart? I'm interested in seeing a picture of the physical cart. I watched the videos without sound during class (I was working during the live show) and the game looks fun. Short too.

It's on a physical cart.  It was purchased from a Yahoo Japan auction, and the game is on a Famicom disk system dev cart.  The game was purchased by a few members from the Lost Levels (namely Frank), and it was purchased for over $3K.

The game will not be reproduced by LL, and they are not going to charge for a community dump.  The general consensus is the game will be available for free DL sometime in the future.

I have to wonder why someone in Japan got it. How'd it end up on a Famicom disk system dev cart too is really odd. Dumb luck that the seller wasn't aware of?

Whoever was keeping their hawks eye on Yahoo Japan auctions really struck gold. I try to look every so often for anything that I'd want, but I can't even find an option to view recently put up auctions, which makes navigating a pain since you can't always know if what you're looking for will be listed under one of your search terms.

The entire reason that this prototype is particular interest is because of the hoax and the debate between dumping it/hoarding it.  The point being that TheRedEye has done countless releases of unreleased NES (and via my site SNES) games out of his own pocket, without asking for a dime.  This game will be released for free eventually, probably after a proper article is written on Lost Levels.  And really, that is the way it should be, to preserve the unusual history of this game before it becomes a footnote in a GoodNES ROM set torrent.  Bio Force Ape appears to have been a potential AAA title for the NES, and should be well documented.

....

I'm pretty sure the game was being developed in Japan, which would be the reason why it was found in Japan.
