So I have a friend whos was connected to the Mortal Kombat franchise and has a prototype for a 3 on 3 Mortal Kombat cart for the SNES where once a member of your team is defeated the next would jump in the take his place without the match ending, game can cancelled because acclaim didnt want to "flood" the Mortal Kombat gaming pool, which is funny looking at it now, hes looking through all his old gaming boxes to try to find it for me atm, but I was wondering if anyone had heard of this before.

I haven't but it sounds pretty neat. Did your friend say how close to completion it was?

I don't know about true completion, but they use to take it home and play it all the time, don't think a story was ever made for it, but all players were fully playable.

Never heard of this, but sounds like an interesting piece of MK history.
This is something that I would love to see pictures and video of.
I have a lot of love for the MK series.

I have a feeling your friend won't be able find it due to his story being total bullshit.

Come on guys.

If you type in a code in MK2, you can get a 4 VS 4 Two player like you described. Maybe something to do with that.

That's all well and good, but your friend is full of shit. You can tell him I said that.

And I'll back this up. I'll even use my flashlight to help him look for his tee-- nevermind.

Mortal Kombat Trilogy on N64 has a 3-on-3 'Kombat' mode...

Perhaps this was something that was being developed, but was not put into effect on the snes version.
Then, after fully developed included on the n64 version.

Yes the game already has 2 vs 2 and 3 vs 3 in various forms in arcade/console for UMK3 and Trilogy.

All I can think of is this might have been a "mode" for original Mortal Kombat he is talking about (since Acclaim was mentioned originally) but you never know. Heck, there are NBA Jam "dirty" versions floating around lol
