So I woke up and checked my-ebay and I see that I have a need to pay message for $150 on a nintendo lot that I've never even looked at before... let alone would never even think of buying.

I highly doubt I could even manage to purchase something in my sleep so needles to say, I'm a bit freaked out.

Any clues as to what might have happened haha?

I know i can contact the seller but then I'm sure Ill have a mark on my account for something stupid.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I was over at your house while you were sleeping. Good luck trying to tell the police you were violated by Sam Spade.

Seriously though, it might be some sort of fraud. I had an asshole hack my accounts and fucked me to the tune of 2k with premium movie channels and escort services out of state.

Weird.....never heard of something like this. I would just get ahold of eBay or the seller and explain. Go from there I guess.

so... do you drink? Sorry, had to ask, as I've done this before (*facepalm*). Have you checked your email for any bid confirmations? If you bid or BIN, you should have an email trail...

As a computer security professional, please don't use the same password for any two websites. It's common to have a single password you use for non-financial things, but things like ebay, amazon, etc should all have unique passwords. If you were compromised and you used the same password for multiple sites, including ebay, odds are that they gained the password through the weakest website and merely tried it on ebay and it worked. Good luck!

Edit: for good measure, if you run windows, run spybot and/or malware bytes to make sure you don't have a keylogger installed on your system. Make sure the def's are up to date before you scan.

@jonny - Oh yeah trust me I have quite the list of passwords for my 100s of online accounts. I worked for the govt in the past so I've had my fair share of security classes. When I said "all my passwords" I mean the relevant ones and they are all different.

But Thanks! more people need to have that drilled into their heads

Hehe. So true. I've bought many things while on Ambien and didn't realize it until the next day.
I guess it beats driving a car through someone's house though.

Maybe a rare case of "sleep walk bidding/web browsing"? You might think I'm joking, but man, stranger things have happened.

Perhaps, Im not ruling anything out at this point.  I sent a message to the seller pleading my case in a nice professional manner, expressing that as both a buyer and a seller I take great pride in my perfect rating and that Id like to resolve it in a friendly manner. Well see what comes forth.

I eagerly await a topic to appear from the seller saying "some idiot bought my item and is using the old excuse that someone hacked his account".

What's so bad about a Nintendo lot? Maybe there's some good stuff in there and $150 isn't a bad price. Link?

Same here haha! I feel absolutely horrible about it, but ebay does have a fairly painless sale cancellation process so I hope it brings as little inconvenience as possible to the seller.

I Got a reply from him, Very nice btw, saying no prob and that he would set up the cancellation. I would definitely do the same for someone given they were prompt, honest and courteous in their communication.

Well, that's good. :3 I wonder what Nintendo lot this was to begin with.. Mystery still remains to how this was bought, but at least the seller was nice.

We should go to a smartcard + pin code for all protection. That way you don't need to remember a million different passwords and are more protected because you have two levels if protection. The method we use now for sites is just dumb. Half you were able to get your problem cleared up though.

The guy is nicer than I was.

I had someone bid and win an item once. They emailed me as soon as the item ended saying they were using their boyfriends account and he didn't want to pay as much as the high bid was.

I told them they either had to pay, or I would file a non-paying bidder claim. They didn't pay, and so I did.

In the mean time, I sold it to a friend for a lot less than the auction price.

HAHAHAHHAHA dude you're super legit! A high school friend of mine passed out in a taco bell drive thru and plowed across a median into the side of a burger king because he had been doing rails of ambien all night. Gotta love 'non narcotic' sleep aids. My folks take em now, about once a month I wake up to find a 'creation' in the fridge.
