Hey, rules question: Is it legal to skip enemies by scrolling them off the screen? For example in Mission 2, you can skip the Chintai at the top of the tower by simply climbing back down the stairs. You can also make enemies disappear by running past them in some places.

My plans have included tricks like this so far. Just making sure I'm playing fairly.

I think I had played too much, because the next few games after that I did terrible, worst and worst, unfortunately there's a thing called sleep which I had to get. Sure hope I can repeat that game but actually beat it before Sunday ends. I am so totally enjoying this week's contest, had been eagerly awaiting this one.

We seem to be on almost the same pace then. I've probably played this game over 100 times in the past few days and beating it with a score of 30,000 seems to be about the best I can do. If I can beat the game at the same pace with both lives I should be able to get a score around 20,000 after the bonus, but I think that's about as good as I'm going to be able to do. I doubt I'm going to win since there haven't been many people posting scores (which probably means they've been practicing all week), but if I beat it again with both my lives, I'm calling it a day.

I've been doing the same thing since I consider it more of a strategy than a glitch.

I haven't done the climbing down the tower to skip the Chintai in mission 2, too much fun enjoying knocking him off, of coarse if I did climb down I'd save myself a few hundred points. But I am scrolling other enemies off screen when I can, hit 'n run, leave their slow asses behind. Why fight if you don't have to, which makes me think, I probably should stop fighting that Chintai on the tower.

That is a pretty valid question since there are quite a few places in the game where you can either outrun enemies until they go off the screen or just avoid them altogether.

I didn't see it in the rules, figured if I didn't do it some others would, such as yourself (only way to get scores as low as that). Besides, how else we going to play a low score game, if we didn't use tricky of the such, then most of our scores would be identical per mission. I used to think, that Chintai on the tower, glitch, but now seeing as you can leave so many enemies behind throughout the game, now I'm seeing this more as technique, afterall, hey, can't help they either just stand there and watch me flee or are too slow to keep up.

Still finding more spots to outrun foes, but because I'm doing so well with score, I'm failing elsewhere because of the lack of fighting moves, jump kick earned after fighting the first twin Abobos, sit on and punch enemies in the face move not earned until the Ropers at the top of the cliff in mission 4, Elbow not earned soon enough to fight Jimmy with it, but then I hadn't made it to Jimmy again since my last score posted because I'm not doing so well with so few moves, not that any of it really helps me much against Willy, beating him so far for me has been luck with positioning and timing since I'm not too good at grabbing enemies, but when I can it sure does much good.

You could always play the Genesis version, it's more fun anyway.

Nearly pulled off a no deather with a nice low score, but Jimmy proved too tough for me until I gathered up some experience from that fight. Damn. Was so close. But still got me a good score. Unfortunately, my time on this is about up, gotta get some rest and by the time I wake I'll have to go to work, then when I get home, contest pretty much over, so, best I'm going to do this time. Even though disappointed, still I think I played a great game. And managed to beat it 5 times during the course of the contest, 4 times just within the past few hours, so I'm quite satisfied with that. Awesome, though sometimes quite frustrating game. Very glad I was able to play this one for the contest.

2/18/2012
lowest score upon beating game 1 death 45080
2/19/2012
lowest score upon beating game 2 deaths 41960
lowest score upon beating game 2 deaths 40270
lowest score upon beating game 2 deaths 35960 (lowest actual score)
lowest score upon beating game 1 death 38930 (lowest score with -5000 bonus points = 33930)

Lowest score upon beating game with 1 death 38,930 - 5,000 = 33,930

Finally!  Zero death run for my master plan.  Take that, random wall of doom!

Complete Game, Zero Deaths,
19,880 - 10,000 = 9,880

Same here. It took me all week just to get the score I did, so there's no way I'm going to figure out how to cut it in half (and then some) in the next few hours. Even if there are people sitting on scores until the last minutes of the contest I don't see how anybody is going to be able to touch that one.

Well I am pretty much burnt out on this game. It's too bad because I had two better runs than this, the first was a few days ago but I figured I would do better and the second it went to title screen too fast. Oh well. If I get the urge to play again I might be able to improve.

Tom, I would love to see your master plan on how to get the least possible points. Pretty sure I had it down on Mission 1 and 2.

Picture is attached.

Same here. I was getting through the first two missions without hardly scoring at all, but I just wasn't finding enough good ways to save points in the last two missions.

If you have any GBA signage or kiosk I would be interested. Please send me a PM because I'm only here about once a month now but I'm still VERY interested in large system signage or small playable kiosks related to the GBA.

This is what I have so far.  Haven't had a lot of time for Double Dragon this week, which is unfortunate because it's one of my favorite games.

My NES collection count: 757 games (16 to go for a full set)

Latest Purchase(s): Snow Brothers

Fuck me! I've been so bad lucked in all my attempts. I was aiming for 15,000ish with the no death bonus, but I got to take this as my best run.

Congrats to Tom! Awesome score, I can't wait to know\see your strategy to achieve this score.

Honorable mention to Doug as well!

There's still ten minutes to go, but if I end up coming in second to a world champion I'll take it!

Well, that's it for me. Got home from work and first thing I did was start this game up, had less than an hour and a half to pull off a miracle. Failed. Got to Willy with a nice low score of 27,810 and had him down to one more grab attack and totally f'ed up, missed that last grab and got shot for my bad timing, then just could not get him after that, he tore me up when I had nearly full health and was winning. I am so pissed at myself. I had this shit good, sure not as good as first place, but I really wanted to no death low score this one. Problem is, too low on time, and it is friggin' cold in my house still, shivering the whole time while playing, still can't get comfortably warm. I bet if I kept trying I'd get this shortly after the contest ended, I know it, sometimes that's just how it works. I played an awesome game, just not awesome enough.
