Here is a link to a spreadsheet that I pulled together of all Game Boy cartridge variants.  Please note, this is just original Game Boy US games.

As a quick note, I started with the base, NintendoAge variant list.  I've added notes in parenthesis regarding the differences of the labels, if there were any.  There are als columns for whether the titles is a "Player's Choice" title, an error label (so far I've only discovered 1) and if it's in the NA database.

Please feel free to comment on any errors, additional variants or other notes you'd like to mention. I'll keep the list up to date and when it's been better vetted, I'll move it over here.

I've been slowly adding these to my personal master list since I'm trying to go for a complete US set, with all variants.  I think this is close to complete.

This is a cartridge only variant list correct?

The box variant list would be massive.

Lol, thanks. I kind of have my blinders on since I only collect carts. I updated the title to clarify. I'll update the original post in a second.

Thanks. I just found an example of a Rev-1 for Adventure Island.  I’ll post it when I get back to my desk.  Any examples of Adventure Island II?

Well this just got interesting!  I’ve never seen these.  Am I just not paying attention or are they super hard to find.

I just found them yesterday for the first time..... they are on their way to me, but they are legit. Jeff and I were discussing and his suggestion that they were part of the big re-release in 1999 would make sense. A lot of the old original million sellers seem to fall in line with the new variant.

Maybe that's where the rather rare Rev-3 Link's Awakening came from. That was the first variant I found that wasn't on the NA list or seemed to be unknown.

You mind if I ask where you managed to find these?

I got them as part of a lot on eBay.... looking for some GBC titles and these caught my eye as I was perusing listings.

Pokemon Yellow has a ESRB variant. The original has a "spraypaint" E, while the later pressing (I believe) has the solid black E (looks like Rev-1).

Are you counting the black carts as GBC or GB since they span both?

Black carts are GBC that can play on the GB if I'm not mistaken.

It's the only error I've ever seen and it's not hard to find.  If I recall, it's a bout a 1-to-4 ratio off errors vs. normal ones and it's not to uncommon.  I'm sure there are other error labels for the GB.  I've just not researched it.

Last quote follow-up, I swear.

I don't have one, and there may not be one.  I've kept my eyes open for over a year for a Rev-0 Space Invaders and I've never seen one.  This could be the same deal.  My hunch is for some reason they ordered a lot of labels, shipped them to manufacturing right before production, had to make a necessary change, ordered the labels to be destroyed and shipped new ones.  Regarding Space Invaders, I'm guessing that game was likely ready to go and they wanted to add the "For Game Boy Player" logo to it.  If anyone finds a legit Rev-0 of that one, hit me up.  You probably have a buyer/trade coming your way.

Edit: Dear Googler of the future, the below is a bootleg!

Are you counting games that have variants with or without the Game Boy logo on the side? I have no idea how many there are, but I didn't see any on your list.

Yes, I would. I didn't no such games existed. Very interesting, and this sucks. I don't have a copy of this game yet and I now hate to see that I need 2x copies of a $100+ game.

But, that's why I started this exercise. To find out what's out there.

I have never seen that Game Boy toxic Crusaders before (one on the left). It looks fake. Do you own it? If so please open and look at the board. If it has a big black glob then it is a reproduction out of Germany.

Agreed, I just wasn't sure I this was going to count them since some people put them in a grey area as they play on both platforms and looked like regular GB carts aside from the color.
