Haven't seen The Simpsons in years. Just recently was thinking about watching a "good epsiode" and came across this video.

So basically, opinions among "the educated" are that The Simpsons really ended with Season 8.

Now thinking retrospectively, I enjoyed the Simpsons until Seasons 9 or 10. All I have to say is that I am glad Bob's Burgers showed up when it did...

By season 8 most of the good writers had moved on. For me Futurama took the place of the Simpsons during this time anyways. I was loosing intrest after "Who Shot Mr. Burns" that's were it started to decline.

South Park and Family Guy took a lot of the wind out of its sails with teens.
When I was in grade school, Simpsons was cream of the crop.
I hit Junior High by South Park Season 3/4 and it had taken over the popularity contest by a massive margin already.
By the time I was a senior in 2005 the Family Guy DVD box sets were almost a status symbol
It was golden times for the Simpsons when they basically only had to compete with Ren & Stimpy and Beavis and Butthead.

You like Bob’s burgers? I think that show is absolutely terrible. Unwatchable for me. What do you like about it?

I am a Bob's Burger's lover since it premiered, I even buy and read the comic books, but it's definitely a show where I see where people are coming from when they say they don't like it. I'm not necessarily into the singing or any of the songs, but I love the characters themselves and the relationships between them. It's kind of a modern day 'Hey Arnold' for me.

I don't get the hate of the Simpsons. It seems to have turned when the internet got big and people liked to bitch online, then liking the Simpsons wasn't cool anymore.

For me there was a lull for a few years where they seemed to harp on Lisa too much instead of what made the show work for them, then it has picked back up the last few years.

Family Guy is circling the drain these last few seasons though, and I gave up on South Park.

I had this discussion with my brother-in-law a couple years ago. I tend to enjoy particular characters more than the show/movie when it comes to comedies. I also have an aunt that is eerily similar to Linda's sister which I get a kick out of...

Im like this. I get attached to characters more than the show. I love Archer because of the Archer character, that being said never could do Bob's Burgers, I tried because its the same voice actor but I need a extremely intelligent, arrogant, sarcastic character, for me to stay on a show. It doesn't happen too often where a show pulls off that character well. The few I can think of are House, Archer, Rick and Morty, and in movies Tony Stark and Sherlock Holmes. Robert Downey Jr. pulls off that style well.

There was definitely a point when I noticed I wasn't enjoying The Simpsons any more. The focus was on celebrity guests and jokes for their own sake rather than jokes that came from the story or revealed the character. When Homer tossed a book into the fireplace because it was "stupid" and then immediately groaned in regret, I stopped watching.

And that is what I like about Bob's Burgers. The characters are funny themselves and the plots are coherent. And I just like the style of interaction with people talking over each other. I can see how that annoys some but I think it's funny. The writing is very packed and dense.

Makes sense. I have tried to watch it because its on at 10pm right when I am usually in bed before I go to sleep, and everytime I watch it I like it a little bit less. Unwatchable was a little harsh lol because I watch it roughly 2 nights a week while falling asleep.

But its weird because I really dont like it.

I don't watch Simpsons religiously ... but when I do, I enjoy it.

Although, I must say... if I was alone... I might not ever actually put it on.

But when it's on... I laugh.

This guys voice...ugh.

I couldn't stomach more then 30 seconds of it.

I still like the Simpsons. I mean it's not the best show ever and it has gone downhill but it's been on the air for 29 seasons. You try coming up with fresh ideas for that many seasons.

But it's better then Family Guy :/

Conan O'brien used to write for the show back in the early days. Around season 3. For sure my favorite era of this show.

I'm not really agreeing with this guy and the fake dramatic I know more than you do voice if it's intentional or not is a turn off. I rarely watch it anymore but the show really never changed, it just got stale because it never changed. It's not a zombie, it's still the Simpsons, but it's still the Simpson's without change. Family Guy has been at it a long time and I see some of the similar complaining about that too, but they stick to their guns as well. Simpsons just did it first, and they didn't go to the cruder extremes that Family Guy does.

I don't think the show went downhill the interest has because it's not 1990 edgy anymore against the less restrained stuff now.

I didn't really watch the Simpsons when I was a kid, so I caught myself up when I had a college roommate who was a Simpsons fanatic with boxes and boxes of DVDs. (so I had no nostalgia or any concept of "what else was on" at the time each season aired.) But I remember that if he was watching Simpsons, and I walked into the room, and the box on the floor said Season 7 or earlier, I'd stay and watch. If it was 8 or later, then it wasn't going to be funny enough to be worth the time. So I guess I agree with the idea, even if it's presented in an insufferable way.

I have similar sentiments about other shows, but none of them get labeled as "zombie" versions of the earlier seasons. And don't get us all started on musical groups that also change over time.

Seasons 2-10, were golden. The show took such a hard turn when Homer took the turn from fun loving moronic father to what a lot of more dire Simpsons fans refer to ass "Jerk Ass" Homer. The characters personalities were slowly destroyed and the show became so shallow. I can personally see a solid decline in quality from Season 9 forward. There is a few gems in Seasons 9-11, my favorite being City of New York City vs. Homer Simpson.

"New York's a hell hole!"

Great show, well it was. I rewatch the older seasons religiously. Homer at The Bat is my favorite episode hands down.

"That's it! You asked for it Boggs!!"

I love the Simpsons.
