Hey guys I got a Tiger Heli Prototype game that I have been holding on to. I made a cart for it which is shittily built might I add but works. The Game works good (After a little work) The title screen has a company difference and text difference on it. I personally hate this game so i don't want to play it after  about 10 seconds so after that I don't know if there is a difference in game levels or sprites or anything. But I am looking to get rid of it in the near future. Here is the proto title screen

This is the Prototype title screen.

This is the title screen of the Actual released game.

That looks more like a pirate than a prototype to me. Did the seller mention where he got it from?

I'm as sure as I can be that this is not a prototype.

Sorry duder.

It's definitely a bootleg board that no legitimate company would touch with a ten foot poll (Not to mention that the words on the board are in Spanish). The differences seen in the game are not a result of an early build, but more a result of a third-party company hacking the title screen with their own name (Pony being that company). The soldering job also looks like they hired a 8 year old to do their dirty work.

I would bet my house that this is a pirate.

*Edit:  Apparently Pony had something to do with this game, although I'm still sure this is a pirate. The Licensing info has been intentially removed.

DreamTR will vouch that this is likely a "crazy mexican proto" like the ones I had a while back. "Componentes" is a dead giveaway.

The ones I've seen usually are just famicom versions, made on South American 72-pin boards. Are the differences like the diff b/w USA and Fami versions?

I believe those to be pirates and not prototypes as well, and I immediately thought of those carts when this thread was posted.  In fact, Dream covers himself in the thread stating that these are "protos/EPROM carts, whatever" in this thread: http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/...

I haven't been able to find a screen cap of the Fami title screen yet, but I assume it would look more like that of this cart than the legitimate release.

I'm sure that all of the "prototypes" mentioned are nothing more than Mexican pirate carts.

That would certainly make sense.  Nice work!

actually almost all the "J"'s have the same Pony logo etc to it... can't find any that have the 2UP missing but I guess consensus is that its a pirate

So its a Pirate huh? That kinda blows. I was almost sure it was a proto. I am glad a paid next to nothing for it tho. I just don't understand why the board has socketed eproms on it and not having them directly soldered to the board.

Not sure why they're socketed, but any board that has no OEM Nintendo parts is not going to be a licensed prototype. I have a Tiger Heli proto that I can snap pics of later tonight if you want to compare.  Any proto that comes from a company that has a Nintendo license will be using either Nintendo EPROM boards or rewired production boards.  Many 3rd party companies use their own boards, though some are a bit more odd than others.

Just to be clear, anything called a "mexican proto" is nothing of the sort. They are straight up pirates, just without shells. Maybe I should write an Ezine article to help identify different protos, might help clear up some confusion.

Sorry Gundam, I think you'd need a very interested party to get more than $5 for it.

Your answer is also right there
The [p1] part of the rom title stands for pirate.
[a1] is alternate rom dump.
CCE is the company who produced the pirate
The title screen for the famicom version looks the same as the title screen from the pirate.

[b] Bad Dump
