Is it safe to assume this insert came with Sesame Street ABC? It isn't on this list.

Yup. An easy way to tell is by the product code. It's HIT-H4-US and so is the game.

Your guide has the LJN poster insert for Back To The Future with code LJN-NES-US but both of these posters have that code. Which one is it?

That's where it gets a little confusing. Some companies like LJN and Konami used the same product code for multiple inserts. That being said, the one on the right is the one that came with Back to the Future.

This is the issue with not including pictures, so many inserts share numbers as mentioned. Games were released and packed with differing items as well, so there will be multiple results per title, but pictures would help tremendously.

Hello everyone I'm fairly new to the site, been collecting a couple years. I have used Wiz's list many time and it's one of the best tools I've ever come across for NES collecting. I am someone that tries to make sure the games I have are 100% complete even down to the bag. (So if anyone has any bags they could spare for a fair price PM me please  !)

Okay aside from that I was able to acquire a couple sealed games not that long ago for a cheap price that would end up being donors for my copies I already owned. Both had varying critter damage, as you can see so I thought immediately about this thread. In my description I just wanted to be as thorough as possible, I even wanted to list the 5 digit number on the top tab as I have noticed through my attempts to reverse complete my copies that there are times that would come in handy. Since some games don't list circle or oval seal and in some cases it makes a difference in what inserts go with what.

Here are two that I'm fairly certain are not on the list:

Hydlide (Oval seal box and cart) (I know it only came oval seal to my knowledge but again just trying to be thorough and let Wiz pick what he needs for the list)
Box: NES-HS-USA
Number on top tab of box 90425
Cart: NES-HS-USA
Manual: NES-HS-USA
FCI Poster Insert: FCI-NES-US
Nintendo Power Insert: PMG-US
Smooth Flat Black Sleeve
Styrofoam
Bag

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of The Lance (Oval seal box and cart)
Box: NES-LQ-USA
Number on top tab of box 01130
Cart: NES-LQ-USA
Manual: NES-LQ-USA-1
FCI Poster/Insert: FCI-NES-US
FCI Reg Card: FCI-NES-US-2
Nintendo Power Insert: PMG-USA
Smooth Flat Black Sleeve
Styrofoam
Bag

I have three more games that I purchased from a collector that said he opened the games himself but I have no way to verify it but everything I got from him was in very good condition and looked to be 100% to me. The games are TMNT 1, Gold Medal Challenge and Batman Returns. Prior to some recent posts Gold Medal Challenge was not on this list but the contents in the copy I have are slightly different than previously posted. Same goes for TMNT 1, Batman Returns to my knowledge has not been mentioned in this thread.

If someone can give me some feedback as to if these would be accepted or not I would appreciate it. If so I have already taken pictures of them and can list the contents so please advise.

One last request, can someone give me a quick rundown on how I can post some pictures on this thread of Hydlide and Heroes of the Lance to show the seals before and after I opened them.

Nice, D&D Heroes of the Lance is like $130 sealed so that helps alot. I assume your TMNT1 has a different NP insert and a different Ultra games poster? That's fairly common.

Thanks for your post, GoodVibes. Yes, any game you open that's different in any way from what's on Wiz's list will be accepted and added in due time. The only caveat is that he only updates the list every couple of years nowadays, but rest assured anything you include in this thread will be added to the list eventually...

My mantra, as worded by SamSpade on 06/12/12:
I don't resell to fund my collection, I don't treat this hobby like a second job, I don't care if my collection is worth ten bucks or ten thousand because I never plan on selling it. Seriously, what does the value have to do with anything if you never plan on selling? Speculation doesn't mean jack shit to me at this point, I just want to play my nes games...

Yeah I ended up getting Heroes of the Lance and Hydlide for $40, less than a year ago. I wanted to use that as my contribution to this list. For TMNT 1 I don’t remember exactly but I think it might have just been the NP insert. I’ll double check tonight.

Definitely, yeah I’ve seen the replies from Wiz about posting and opening even if they’re already on the list.

I just want to be clear though on the three that I personally didn’t open but the gentleman I got them from was the one who opened them. Not sure if that’s accepted or not but I bought about five or six 100% complete games from the same guy and after the purchase I asked if any of the ones I bought he opened and he named the three above. He had quite a few others he claims he opened personally but I didn’t need all the ones he was selling. It wasn’t something he was trying to use as a selling point to get me to buy them, so I don’t think he would have any reason to not tell me the truth.

so I wanted to get that out of the way if for some reason they wouldn’t be accepted.

If they would be good I’ll add them to the list tonight.

I’ll try and get pictures uploaded tonight.

As people mentioned before, I think we should have a "Assumed to be previously sealed" section on the list. Sealed games are becoming too pricey for people to open.

I will put the post up later with pictures and the contents and Wiz can decide if he wants to use them or not.

Thanks for the input.

Need an assist from an NA veteran to help me get these pictures rotated properly. Tried multiple times and multiple ways, even rotating prior to attaching and they post the same counter clockwise way every time.

They should stay horizontal if you save them that way in an image editor. Most people on NA use an image upload site as the attachment feature is kinda wonky.

Every retail NES game in existence is "assumed to be previously sealed."  That is a very slippery slope.  All it takes is one wrong assumption and you've got completists looking for the wrong insert to match to whatever game for the rest of eternity.   Mike Etler's list came out in the '90's, and some of the more infamous mistakes made on that list are still causing repurcussions for new collectors doing casual research on the internet to this day.

That said, this isn't my list, so Wiz can decide how he wants to deal with it whenever he comes back around here for his next update...

Oh, and sealed games have always been more pricey than NES games in any other form.  That didn't stop me from opening them twenty years ago, and it won't stop me from opening them now.  I don't see the price issue as a valid excuse.

If 10 previous auctions of the same game have the same inserts, I think it's safe to assume that those are 100% complete. Is it possible that 11th auction could have had something extra with the game we missed? Yes but that's the risk the person takes when trying to complete a game. As long as Wiz adds a disclaimer that even though these were not sealed, based on research we've found online we are going to say this is most likely what a sealed game would have. I really think that would help.

I understand sealed games are worth more. What I'm saying is most people are not going to open a $100+ sealed game just for this list. They are either going to keep it or sell it. 20 years ago you could buy most sealed NES games for under $100 so it was no big deal.

I think I have at least 4 more that aren't on the list and a few others that are. Posting the pics was a huge pain, but I think it's worthwhile so I'll add them as I have time.
