I have never seen one before. I'm sure someone would pay a pretty penny for it though. Where did you get it?

Visually, It looks a lot like a regular Action 52 cart, or it looks like my Cheetamen II cart anyways. What makes it a black proto?

Edit: a couple posts down in the "Price Check" thread is my "Found this in a pawn shop" thread, Does it look a lot like that?

The black board action 52 isn't a prototype, it's a regular release, albeit a rarer variant.

Yea, it's less common than the usual green boards, probably worth a bit more, but not much from what I've read in the past.

While Action 52's black board counter-part is harder to find than the green version, I have never really noticed any significant change in value. I really wouldn't even call it a prototype, since it was released with the retail games. The "Real" prototypes are the ones that the Greg Pabich/original staff members still have.

The black version is superior, however, as both that I've played allow you to play a couple of the games that would not boot up on the regular release.

Let me know if you have any more Action 52 questions!

After seeing several of these pop up with the Made in the USA text at the top, coupled with the lack of any source in difference in the code, I see absolutely no reason why this should be considered a prototype in any capacity.

Cool variant, hard to find variant, great collection piece, not a proto.

Well, that depends on the ROM inside, actually. If it does not have Cheetahmen, but Action Gamer, then it's definitely a prototype. Otherwise, a really nice variant.

They did make Action 52 with the black boards. This more then likely is just that and not a prototype.

Is there even an actual prototype of Action 52? I can't see why one would exist, Action 52 pretty much IS a proto.

Greg Pabich does indeed one a true prototype of Action 52 that he was given by Vince Perri, himself. It has completely different menus (ones that are directly ripped from a 52-in-1 pirate cartridge) , a completely different Cheetahmen game (Which he sells on his website under the title, Cheetahmen: The Creation).

True protos have a BLUE pcb. The only other known one we've found belonged to a Active Enterprises staff member who was selling it on eBay for nearly 100K with a ton of original Action 52 promotional items.

yeah i'm guessing it is not a proto. The weird thing about the black cart i have is that i can actually play "Alfredo" that i couldn't play on my green (rev A) I'm guessing it's just a rare variation cart. Does anyone else have the same cart as mine?
