How long does an attempt take?

Think I'd prefer to take my 3-5 points and start a new SNES game tonight if this one is an endurance test

This game is still unbeaten for the year in the NES completions thread, so I'm expecting one of you guys to take care of it this week!

Ugh, this is going to be an endurance test this week. Still playing, have yet to die, and this is the first (and probably only) attempt for me. But I'm not doing good enough to match whatever bert and skinny will put up. Who's gonna put the time in this week, that is the question

Mother f'er.  Game over'd on 49.  Someone else can claim the victory for scary's thread

updated

edit:  Looks like I got the Twin Galaxies record by 15,000...  the first time ever playing the game...

And to think that some people on NA took exception to sentiments that TG isn't necessarily the most accurate representation of world best scores

Giving this a go this morning(since I missed out on last week's game). I'm noticing right away that keeping the multiplier up is KEY to getting a decent score, even more importantly a high score keeps your reserve gas tank filled after each stage.

I think I'm probably done. Level 30 screwed me twice in a row. I'm actually a big fan of this game but it is a pretty bad port of the arcade.

When I was practicing this game before Sunday, I always started on level 4 because that's the default, and the game doesn't tell you how the multiplier works unless you start on level 1. So I just spammed the fire button as I would any other shooter and I was lucky to get over 25k.

If you want a real challenge, just keep firing and ignore the score multiplier and see how far you can get.

I've reached the near the end of the game using the power glove a few years ago. Might need some time to practice with or without the glove. Don't know, if I have the time as I'm in the middle of playing other games.

The most difficult thing about this game really is forcing yourself to play it. It's the opposite of addictive.

Usually the only levels where you even have to try are the ones that don't refill your main tank much at the beginning. These levels can be a pain, but if you can get past them, you can ease through a few more levels until you have to make an effort again.

At least this game is easy. After Danny Sullivan, I don't mind that so much.

He may have beaten the game by skipping levels.

The level skips would make the game more playable and much less of a grind if you're simply trying to beat it and not going for high score.

I'd say the most difficult thing is dealing with hand pain.  I made it to the 7th level and had to quit.  Might have to try the NES Advantage on this one.

Having to keep holding up is hard on the thumb, but I'm used to it, I guess.

It's easy as hell, except for the levels that don't start you off with much gas in the main tank. They can be problematic for me, especially later in the game.

Well I guess I'm comparing it to Rad Racer where later in the game you crash once = you lose, and you don't have continues
