Hi everyone,

I was trying to estimate the price of some items in my collection when I realized that maybe my version of Action 52 was a prototype. I bought it several years ago in a secondhand market but i was not really interested in since I haven't a NES.

I've subscribed to nintendoage because i've seen others thread about this prototype version of Action 52 !

My cartridge version seems really similar to the one showed here (http://www.videogamemuseum.com/20... ) as Prototype 1 (it has blue motherboard, same label, 3 metal screws to hold the label, MADE IN AMERICA is written on top of the motherboard).

If its really the same as the one on videogamemuseum.com (i'm confident on that) that mean that this prototype version is not unique.

Please find here photos of the cartridge :

(and sorry for the mistakes as english is not my native language )

EDIT : Looking for differences between this cartridges and other samples version, I found that the name of the last game was neither "The Cheetahmen" (like "standard" version nor "Action Gamer" (like other prototype) but "The Action Gamemaster".

I'll try to find a NES in the next day to see how the game works !

Definitely a proto! It shouldn't pose too much of a problem to get an NES, so send us some pics when you get one.
Also, can you dump the ROM? I'd like to see this game even more incomplete

I just watched the Game Chasers episode where they meet the Action 52 guy. According to him, "The Action Gamemaster" is the prototype version of Cheetahmen - they decided to change the name to make it more marketable a la ninja turtles. His proto was blue as well, although he claimed it was the "only one that exists" iirc.

Mogen,

That definitely looks like the prototype. If it is, that's BIG $$$. There are only 2 other samples known to exist, one owned by Greg Pabich, the other owned by one of the original Action 52 developers http://action52prototype.com.... If you're going to sell it, hold out for the real money, $100,000. A true collector will pay that due to its rarity and history. if you get any lowball offers, ignore them and put it away in a safe place, you'll get what it's really worth eventually. Great find and congratulations !

Rofl at $100k... This is a cool item none the less. You hold off for that kind of money your palms are going to get sweaty and not greased.

Nobody in their right mind would ever pay anywhere close to that amount, Mr. Pabich. It is a crappy novelty game with some degree of cult status. Even a legit, different from retail copy of an actually important game like Super Mario Bros. wouldn't sell for anywhere near that.

Not Pabich But he's said publicly that he's had $60,000 offers he's declined. It's in more than one of his Youtube videos from his gaming conferences.

And regarding pricing, here's a comparable:

Well, he lied.

I own hundreds of prototypes including Mario games, Megaman games, etc.  My entire collection of prototype is worth around what Pabich is claiming he turned down.  $60,000 for a CM prototype is laughable.

First thing that came to mind was our recent talk. I'm glad you chimed in here about this though... hell if you are going to be a creeper since 2012 might as well make your first post in 2 years memorable...LOL Boy oh boy!

You own hundredds of prototypes ? And together they're all worth less than $60k ? You obviously don't own:

http://www.destructoid.com/how-ab...

or

http://www.ebay.com/itm/140817661...

or

http://kotaku.com/5475141/bidding...

or

http://www.gamerheadlines.com/201...

should I go on ? If you did, your collection would be worth a LOT more, add an Action 52 Prototype for only $100k and complete your collection.

This is actually pretty funny.  Those first two links were indeed his listings (or his brothers).

The third link is a factory sealed game, no bearing on this discussion.

The final one is a NWC, which of course never actually sold.  See here:
http://nintendoage.com/forum/mess...

and here it is still for sale:
http://nintendoage.com/forum/mess...

It appears you, much like many of those "news" articles fail to understand the difference between asking price (or best offer) and sold price.

Was cracking up when I seen the first 2. "Let me post 2 titles from your collection to prove how crappy your collection is compared to these." Oh man I love this guy he makes me laugh. The wheels on the bus go round n round, round n round!

This may very well be the greatest post in NA history.  From the list, BeaglePuss and I:

- Own the first.
- Owned and sold the second.
- Own the game loose, thos it is irrelevant because it isn't a prototype.
- Owned and sold a gray NWC for the highest publicly recorded price, though also irrelvant because it isn't a prototype.

Outstanding work!

"This is actually pretty funny.  Those first two links were indeed his listings (or his brothers). "

If they were his, his collection would be worth more than $60,000, either you don't have your facts straight, or he was exaggerating. If they were his brothers, then tell him there's an Action 52 Prototype for sale, only $100k. Either way, Action 52 Prototype is worth $100k and as soon as I can afford it, that's what I'll pay. The key part being not being able to afford it "at this time". Anyone want to finance it for me ? No interest ?

When you own one, then you can tell others what it's worth, until then, don't lowball or make any type of judgements or claims based on what "you" would pay for it since you obviously don't have $100k to burn on a rare prototype and would JUMP on the chance to own it if you could, don't lie. If you get this poor guy to sell it for $10,000 or some other lowball stupid offer you stand to make a fortune off of him. Mogen32, don't do it !
