Haha. But if it's really only $250, seems like that could be doable by hyping the kickstarter again, maybe giving out some extra perks? I imagine most users don't know about the patreon or that we're struggling (I didn't know the extent of it). Maybe you could temporarily put a banner on the latest posts page visible to those of us who haven't subscribed to the patreon, just to get over the edge? I'm sorry if my suggestions aren't very substantial. But fundraising efforts always seem to be more effective if supporters can see immediately (before they even reach the donation page) how close to the goal they are, so they know they're making a difference.

The Patreon page shows NA currently at $400/$650 per month - I take it then that we're only $250/month short of hitting the approximate monthly server expense?
I agree.  As long as these are only porn ads, I really don't see the problem.  Or did I read that wrong...

In all seriousness, thank you for this site, Dain.  I'm sure you know it's a special place, and however special you think it is, it's probably even more so.

Whatever works, Dain. Thanks for NintendoAge. The internets wouldn't be the same without it.

I'd have no problem with this. And Latest Posts is the primary way I use this site. People dislike ads not on a moral basis, but when they are intrusive to their experience. I mostly watch broadcast TV regularly and I'm down with commercials there. A banner ad at the top of every page I view is fine if it doesn't cause trouble to view the following content.

I really don't care much if an ad appears here and there, but I thought it was worth mentioning that I had never heard of patreon. I am happy to contribute a few bucks each month to the only website I go to everyday. Just thought it was worth mentioning since I have been here for a few years and I wasn't familiar - I am sure there are lots of others who would be happy to contribute "the cost of one cup of cofee each day" every month when we are on here all the time. Ads are fine, but if all it takes is a handful of us to contribute a few bucks each month to save the mods endless complaints about ads, I would be willing to bet that's doable. Either way, as long as the site is here, you won't hear me complaining.

I've never used adblock just due to my laziness. I wonder how much time I've wasted watching YouTube ads over the years. Give me all the ads you got.

I am so encouraged by the many comments of support and positivity regarding this change!

Regarding the comments about Patreon - people make some very good points about not being aware of it and it being a great way to donate - all of which are very valid. And the Patreon is helping and the subscribers are absolutely appreciated.

The challenge is, we could make a big Patreon push or donation drive and get up to the monthly goal or have some reserve funds, and then in a few months time or a year, subscriptions may dwindle and another push would need to be made, etc etc etc. The benefit of ad-revenue complementing donations (not replacing them), is that they are more passive in nature and can help to supplement funds without the need for continually asking for money or reminding people of the Patreon, etc. The issue of raising funds to maintain the site is something Dain has been managing for years and has a lot of experience with. As he stated, he has put a lot of time and thought into managing all of this and there are long-term reasons for needing to explore this route as opposed to just quickly raising funds for the short-term. Additionally, Dain has very selflessly tried to make this place not about him and the need for funds, and I believe does not want a heavy focus on asking for money up around the site at all times, despite it potentially increasing donations.

I'm not trying to discount or ignore people's suggestions, but just trying to explain that there are many reasons for this, some of which involve the amount of time and work involved with requesting funds. This is a way to supplement revenue with significantly less work and minimal impact, and doesn't require people to spend their own personal funds. I think it is a great balance.

I'll be sure to check the Latest Topics more often, maybe even see if I can set up something to auto refresh the page (would that even be allowed?)

Thanks for the notice, Dain -- and for everything you continue to put into this labor of love. I hope the ads provide sufficient revenue.

Parroting the same that's already been said.

Here's hoping you can actually make some profit off the deal and keep on improving NA.

Got any of these for sale? Sell them to me. I also buy other NES Publisher inserts, and even GB/GBC, and SNES inserts too.

I wish I could unblock, but I can't. I will on my phone though.

I run script blockers as well as an ad blocker on my pc browsers. If I allow the ad website to run in my script blocker, its global. I can't just whitelist all scripts to run on this page in NoScript, at least that I have ever found. There are many reason I run these, but mostly it saves your bacon if you Google searching and hit a site that has been infected. Another is it kills paywalls on news sites. I can read as many articles I want per month.

The ads are pretty good, I have already entered to win a trip to Oktoberfest and went to some government pages, I like that they are ads local to me.

I feel like a douche for even commenting since I'm not currently contributing but I'll live. If what i see so far is any indication i say ad this mother up. I think it's insane that you're not turning a good profit from this site. It's well and good to work for the good of the community but if you're having to struggle to do it? That's bullshit. You've created something great here and nevermind the anti ad babies.

They're only on the game pages right now:

Nice, busting out the SE page.  I think we should have anothe rally for Pateron.  Maybe adjust the Pateron icons of those who contributed for a lenght of time (similar to the server icon).

The ads didn't bother me till recently. On mobile some of them are borderline making me not want to use NA. I just had google take over and want me to spin a wheel after taking me to a different webpage. That was pretty bad. Last night I had some banner come down from the top and cover what I wanted to see, which bothered me more than the ones at the bottom for some reason.

-------------------------

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at the Let's Play Gaming Expo last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

Oh, my WTB thread is very popular. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, Richard craniums - they all adore it. They think it's a righteous thread.
I'd also like to add that I've got my father's gun and a *scorching* price guide for aftermarket Nintendo games.
Between Dragon Warriors and nothing... I'll take Dragon Warriors - for any of my FT/FS/FO items.

I haven't been on in almost a year, but I figured this was coming, sooner or later. I'm actually surprised it took as long as it did.

My opinion: plaster that mf across the top of the forum pages and make the money you need to keep NA open. (as long as they don't do what Ferris said) Or stick it in the corner where Ted Nindo used to be. You've always taken the cost of NA in the pooper, and you deserve to make a little money for maintaining something like this.

Thanks for the courtesy note, but do what you gotta do.
