Howdy all,

As I mentioned in my previous post about why GoCollect acquired NintendoAge, we will be adding a couple of banners to promote both GoCollect and other companies that directly relate to the video game and collectibles industries. While many of us may be interested in a great place to buy cheap Viagra, we have no intent to spam your eyes with irrelevant crap like that.

Out of respect to both you and the NA community at large, I wanted to put this example banner & post up before we began rotating any advertisements. If you ever see anything that isn’t related to video games, other collectibles or anything else that you feel is too much or intrusive, please let me know.

I also wanted to take a second and say thank you for all of your support over these last few weeks! It was great to have a booth related to video games and display parts of the Carolina Collection at Heroes Con in Charlotte. This community is truly filled with amazing people and I can’t wait to meet and chat with more of you.

When do you plan on implementing these and where do you plan on putting them? For example, are we gonna see a banner at the top of every thead or is this gonna be in like the forum subcategories. Is your company going to be doing the ads yourselves? For example, can a company such as a small gamestore or something rent the top banner for a period of time, or are your ads being done by a third party such as google ads? And finally, are you going to have some sort of "anti-adblocker" built in? For example, some websites will restrict content if they detect adblocker.

No complaints personally, I would just like to know what they are gonna be like, especially the adblocker part because I use one on my laptop. Ads on the site is something that isn't necessarily new, I remember a while ago seeing them at the bottom of pages.

I'm not seeing an example banner. Should it be visible from this thread?
 

The last time we had ads here, I don't feel like it was really all that intrusive or bothersome at all. In fact, some of them were kinda funny.

I'm sure this time won't be much different and it will be completely fine.

As long as the ads don't slow down the site or introduce popups by any means.

There's a site I frequent that's difficult for me to navigate due to them having video-based ads that slow down the site and blurt out sound when ever they can. Luckily Chrome has a mute function per site/tab, but it's still very annoying.

Yes, this.   Beyond that I'm good with regular ads (especially targeted ones; may point out sales/promos I'm not aware of)

Alright - the super annoying, incredibly intrusive, and totally unnecessary banner is in place in the worst spot it could possibly be placed. It is with my sincere apologies that I've been forced to introduce this horror to the boards!

How did you get a picture of my face on the banner with my reaction of said banner? Impressive back to the future work indeed.

Ads are commonplace, seems fine to me. Would be great not to have pop-up or auto-play video ones tho.

I like this banner. Imma make it part of my signature, I encourage everyone to do it as well.

I already had code written into my browser to block this test one.

How many ads do I have to click on to fulfill my daily quota?
