I know may of you like myself love the max because of its form factor and turbo buttons, but hate the cycloid disc thingy.

In the past we have used Xbox 360 thumbsticks and some have super glued gamecube d-pads (really super glue?)

I had a thought and it worked add a NES D-Pad to it.

First we sand the back of the NES D-Pad to eliminate the bump in the back and make it flat

Once is all nice and Flat we move on to the ring of the Max where the arrows are and we start sanding and test fitting

Remember we are looking for a tight fit, Sand and Test Sand and Test until it pops right in

Im planning to mod another one in the next couple of days for a local buddy so I will take more pictures then.

I will try to record a video, it feels very natural LIKE IT BELONGS THERE

TWO PAIR;

I have modded a new one this one is sporting a Black D-Pad

This poor guy was abandoned as non working, and its shell is cracked on the corners so much so that two of the internal posts where broken, I said well no pain no gain, so I decided to step up my mod with a SNES D-Pad in it and I am still testing it, it feels good so far.

NEON GREEN

NEON PINK

This was my only gripe with the Max controller. If I ever score one in the wild I will give this a shot for sure. Thanks for sharing!

How does it play? Does the outer ring get in the way? Seems like a perfect use for a MAX if it plays (nearly) as good as a standard controller.

It feels great the ring does not interfere at all as your thumb is always on the dpad like the standard nes controller

My only gripe and maybe this applys to some of us, is that we are grown ups now and the max feels a bit small to the hands

I wanted to chime in and let everyone know that I'm a big fan of this mod. It has handled everything I threw at it, including diagonals, beautifully. I'll do more gameplay testing here and there, but its been great so far.

Looking to improve the mod by going super Nintendo d-pads but it gets tricky because of the size

I have to admit SNES D-Pads open a new world of possibilities but it is waaaaay harder to install as the tolerances as way higher and there is too much sanding to do plus it presents the oportunity to mess it all up.
