Obviously do not start any official runs until Jan. 1st at midnight

Game #1: Super Mario World
Rules

  • Goal -> High score
  • Bonus Point -> Beat the game
  • 1 life only
  • You may use each of the 96 level exits one time each.  If you #$%@ up and re-use one your run immediately ends
  • Take a picture of your score before you fight Bowser as you will not be able to see it once you enter the castle roof
Game #2: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Rules

  • Goal -> Progress
  • Bonus Point -> Beat the game with no deaths
  • Tiebreaker #1 -> Number of deaths
  • Tiebreaker #2 -> Number of hearts
  • Tiebreaker #3 -> Sword level
  • Tiebreaker #4 -> Armor level
  • Tiebreaker #5 -> Number of bottles
  • Tiebreaker #6 -> Magic Upgrade
  • Tiebreaker #7 -> Submission date
  • All tiebreakers are low to high.  By that I mean they reward less hearts, low armor, no bottles, etc.
  • You can use and reload saves, including reseting if you die
  • No glitches allowed

I love A Link to the Past, but I have approximately zero chance at either game when faced against the experts around here. I'll wait for Super Punch-Out.

Does SMW let you bail out of completed levels? If so, that is obviously forbidden too

Man. Might have to get in on that 100% LoZ action.

Yes, it does.

I think I'll give the contests a try again. Inevitably, something comes up and I no longer have time to compete, but we'll see what happens this year.

Thanks for writing. I apologize for the delay in responding to your email during this busy time of year.
In regard to your email, it is great to hear that you have found a copy of Perfect Dark for the Nintendo 64. Perfect dark was a first person shooter game that was released in May of 2000. I personally enjoyed this game a lot during my mid-teen years since it allows for up to four players to play at one time. All the Perfect Dark cartridges were black.

I hope this information is what you are looking for.

Response I received from Nintendo customer support when I asked if they knew any thing about a black Perfect Dark cart.

Just to clarify, LttP will be rewarding minimalist runs

I can handle a LttP run. I've dipped my toes into a speedrun of it so that'll help me. I don't feel like I'll have too much of a chance at Super Mario World. I can't help myself but run through it and usually die by the first castle.

I blatantly stole the macro I made to export the main leaderboard from the NES contest thread, but it is updated with results till February.
