It made a huge difference for me progression wise. On my first run after figuring that out I was able to make it to the Dark Queen while maybe only using one or two continues. I like this game alot but I think the developers must of caved in a little bit by making it much more of a beat em up vs the first battletoads. I personally like the other style of game better...

It makes sense considering that Double Dragon was added to the game. I think there is a pretty good mix of gameplay overall though. Didn't expect for this game to have a shooter level, but bonus there. The game can be very frustrating, but I guess that's just part of the Battletoads lore. I can say that Roper's machine gun attack where he juggle hits you with bullets until you die is probably one of the cheapest boss attacks I've ever seen.

For that Roper with the gun, I just basically stay to the far left side of the screen, wait for him to come about half way over and throw the lunging jump kicks at him retreat and repeat and he's lucky if he gets one hit on me. I switched it up and use one of the Lees' also because I feel like you get more of a range with that jump kick than you do with the toads ram head-butt.

I think I may be done for the week. I just can't seem to get past 4-1 and this game pisses me off with its' extreme cheapness. I'm beginning to hate all things Battletoad.

You should try the Genesis version, it plays much better, although still fairly cheap and unfair at times.  I actually tried out all three versions this week, and thought the SNES version was the worst.  The music sounded awful (disjointed, too samply) and I thought it played worse than the NES version.  A rare instance where I found the Genesis version to be superior even in the music category (FM synth sounds great for this game).  Anyway, I haven't been giving this game much of a chance, but I'll post something up soon.

Score updated again. Thought I'd give it one more shot with avoiding points at all costs and I'm real pleased with the result.

I haven't played this game with one of the toads in a long time, but I think one of the Lees is the way to go so far as keeping a low score. Jump kicks FTW.

Score updated... I was able to beat the game on the play through of this update, it took me a few continues though. I would like to give it one more shot to try and beat the game without continuing but I doubt I'll have the chance.

Nice job Arnpoly! That's a really awesome score, I think I was maybe on level 5 and I had already passed 500K.

Only got to play 3 or 4 tries at it this week.  Busier than I wanted to be.

Neat game, great variety. But some places definitely have an unforgiving learning curve the first time you see them.

Level 3-3
(2nd-to-last section)

With a continue I mopped up the rest of the level and tried out the Asteroids clone.
Definitely a fun twist.

2-3 Boss Fight.
Unfortunately, this is the one game scheduled for this year that I do not own so I had to play on an emulator. Fun game though, and I will have to keep my eye out for a deal on it.

Really good run this time, I'm super happy with this one!

EDIT:  Old score was 534,750

Finally beat it on one continue with a few extra lives to boot!  I traded points for lives in a particular spot so I could get this score lower, but I think this is pretty good.

Your post is confusing. So did you use a continue to beat it or no continues? From what is posted,it sounds as though you used one continue to beat the game. Not saying you did, just saying that the wording of the post is ambiguous.

What I meant to say was I did not use any continues.  I will edit my post to correct that.

This is the second time someone has questioned my phrasing which means I need to listen and stop saying it that way!  =)  Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Technically since we play until the start of our last life, we stop playing before the continue screen ever appears.

Oh I knew you didn't use any continues,I just wanted to slam shut the door of uncertainty Nice win,you and briguy have been killing it recently. You guys are newer players but definitely welcome additions to the competitors. This actually goes to all the more recent competitors. We are glad to have you here. I know I am.
