Just tweeted this at EastAsiaSoft cuz I'm getting sick of it: https://twitter.com/GlovesOffGames/status/1168023825474150400

Some other companies have gotten around this simply but not printing the boxes with the cut in them that locks it closed.

I'm sick of this shit happening cuz they're impossible to open otherwise:

Anyone else hate this?

EDIT: They replied pretty quick, so that's nice at least:

I know all boxes aren't cut equally, but how are you opening these? I've found sliding in the backside of a butter knife or then plastic/metal, and then pressing firmly and squarely against the fold 95% of the times allows you to open boxed items without damaging them.

But, like I said, not all box cuts are the same. If the little flaps cover the cut edges, you have to get careful and crafty and moving the cardboard around. I hate boxes for this very reason. When the fold in the middle of the wide tab, it just agitates me to no end.

In a way, isnt this a kind of "seal"?

I mean it allows a store to see if the item has been opened if someone is trying to return it as unused?

I do something similar. I slide a knife in from the side of the top flap (or both sides if necessary) and then apply upward pressure evenly throughout the flap. This usually works, although occasionally I also get a bend or tear. Those little cuts on the left and right flaps can totally screw you over.

The box comes sealed in TWO layers of plastic.

Oh well, I place the blame squarley on the Chinese, instead of the Canadians, on this one then!

You can slide a knife under each side and lightly pop them up without bending the tab.

Well it's better than having the box glued shut like the NES Classics controller or the Mario 25th Anniversary DSi XL. I've seen painful unboxing videos on YouTube for the DSi.

True. Its just happened to me a few times as well and i usually open the plastic with a knife so i've gotten used to using the knife to slide open the flap.

I use a letter opener to carefully get the flap open then i take some sticky tape and put a tiny square on the inside flap to cover each of the slits to stop it locking when i close it. Have done this for every box that has this shit feature and its saved all of them from getting trashed.

Realistically it's far from the end of the world. I'm enjoying Odallus regardless, but it'd just be nice not to personally be the one bending boxes, ya know?

That said, yeah 100% first world problem right here.

I cringed opening my odallus and oniken collection too but it doesn't super bother me. What does bother me is I got the lvl 3 sword in odallus before the lvl2. Now the lvl2 auto equipped and I can't figure out how to go back. I have the cursor on swords in the inventory pause screen but can't select which one? Am I missing something?

Things like this are maddening to someone with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Trivial issues sure, but it still sucks to have to take special steps to avoid damaging a game.
