If it is not a contest SP, I remember companies offering aftermarket gold plated SP for sale back in the day.

all i really have to go on is that the seller said he got it from a games company before it closed and it maybe a unused contest prize. and that link is interesting as i have come across it before.

Ive seen other companies offer gold plated wii consoles and if i remember correct psp too. But it was a long time ago and sure the company dosent exsist anymore. But yeah, you can gold plate just about anything.

First post edited with a few more pics, was trying to use my pc, but with the amout of stuff on my phone the transfer rate was abyssmal.

I mean in the UK there was a contest for a real gold SP, but that just appears to be a reshell unless it weighs like 10 pounds.
