I started tinkering around with my copy when I got it a couple days ago, and I'm pretty happy with it; still a bummer that there's no music, but obviously, that's not the fault of you guys. And I actually kind of dug the silence, anyway. I feel like for a puzzle game, some silence doesn't hurt (at least for me). I never played the original, so I don't have another version to compare it with, but re: the controls, it hasn't been a problem for me thus far, although, admittedly, I only played the first 10 levels or so.

Great job with the release!

I fired up my copy last night and I had some fun with it. I got through the first 12 levels. I have never played Chip's Challenge before in any format, which is a darn shame because this game is right up my alley!

I definitely understand the issues with the controls. You have to get a feel for inching forward. Thankfully Level 9 forces you to get over any issues you may have!

The Windows game is obviously more colorful.

But I find the NES controller input to be more satisfying that tapping directional keys.

I'm not sure how much trouble Jeff ran into implementing the remaining levels but I do remember that getting the passwords working for all the levels seemed like a bigger deal. We had to get bunnyboys help to figure out how the level passwords functioned to figure out how to get all of those working.

They also mention this about the history of the game:
We're not sure what became of the NES version. What we do know is that Bullet-Proof announced it at Winter CES, January 1991, then exhibited it again at Summer CES in June, and then as far as we can tell, never mentioned it again. Interestingly, this build of the game is dated 5/8/1992, meaning that it was burned well after those demos. And, you may notice, Bullet-Proof does not appear in the ROM at all. Perhaps Bullet-Proof decided to pass, and this was a polished demo that was being passed around in the hopes of finding a new publisher? I contacted the NES version's programmer to ask, but haven't heard back. I'll update this should he ever reply

Lost Levels look over the game is kind of wrong there's 137 levels left accessible from the raw proto the remaining 12 were complete but unacceptable the ending was left in a weird place (84h) which would freeze after going to it

the chips hack was completed as far as i could take it which included having all 149 levels available with passwords (thanks bunnyboy) no glitching at the end of the credits the only thing that i could not do was add sound and music

Oh, thank you. I didn't even know about this version. You did a lot of work. You're cool.
