The state of save states?

Hi,

I know that currently there are no save states on the AVS.
It isn't a huge issue per say as I have multiple ways of playing my NES games so if I am playing a game that I just am not able to beat no matter what, I can always pop it in another system like the retron 5 and be able to finish it and actually see the ending or levels I was never able to get to.

I would however like to have an all in one solution if you know what I mean.
I have a HighDefNes, rgb modded nes + framemeister, a retron 5 and now an AVS and I have to say that as far as simplicity, features, faithfullness to the original hardware and appearances the AVS takes the cake.
The only thing I find is missing are save states.

I was wondering if this might be a feature added eventually via firmware update or if this is out of the question entirely, at least for the first revisions of the avs.
Sorry if this question has been answered before.

Thank you.

I would love seeing save states as well, but I don't think the FPGA can handle it.

Save states need insider info into the cart mapper, so it needs flash cart (PowerPak) or emulator (Retron 5).

Yeah, buy a Powerpak and load the ROMs.

And then you have an AVS Classic Mini ... that isn't mini, really, or ... something. But you got your save states.

Everdrive N8 is also capable of save states for most NES titles.

You can get the details from each store:

Powerpak:
https://www.retrousb.com/product_...

Everdrive:
https://krikzz.com/store/home/31-...

Powerpak is made by RetroUSB, which also makes the AVS.

The powerpak doesn't have savestates.

It does have savestates, with similar limitations to the everdrive. Ex. - MMC5 doesn't work for savestates.

Check the mappers developed by TheFox.

Slightly incorrect. Out of the box, it doesn't have savestates, but through downloaded updated mappers, you get savestates. I use Power Mappers in particular.

Save states could be technically possible (Game Action Replay did it to some extent, after all), but it's bit more of a hassle to get working outside of a flash cart, and possibly less reliable.

Is there any way for Scoreboard to detect the use of save states with the Powermappers?

Not saying I would ever do this, but some people might. The potential for abuse is always there. Truthfully, I never actually bothered with save states on the Power Pak because I couldn't be arsed to create SAVs for every single game.
