Saturn did have the best version of Duke Nukem 3D and Alien Trilogy at least. Beyond that most of the games had little replay value.

On a more serious note, I've played EarthBound today for so long, I feel all tense and mentally worn out.
Then you called your mother and felt better?

Don't forget about Quake and Powerslave as well.  Not sure about Doom.

Saturn > n64
The problem is that what few games the n64 has im not interested in half of them. At least i have more options on the other system.

I probably wouldn't compare the two systems personally. The best games on either system for the most part are very different gameplay wise.

Mutliplayer alone is a reason why the n64 was the ultimate system that generation.

Oh hell yeah especially if we are also considering imports.

It's at least interesting to see so much praise for the Saturn. I had no idea.

How's the Dreamcast?

Dreamcast is great as well IMO. Way ahead of it's time. It was the first system ever with built in internet capabilities and had a semi HD VGA output (480P). Plus even though the controllers are wonky as hell you have to admit those little gameboy looking memory cards are pretty cool. There are some stand alone games you can play on them. I really liked trading Power Stone 2 items with a friend using them. I think they are called VMUs. They connect with each other for trading and I think some sort of fighting mechanism with characters on some games. Also displayed pertinent information on the screen. Helped a lot in the Resident Evil games where your health was shown there. Didn't have to enter into the inventory screen just to see how you were doing on health anymore.

Dreamcast is possibly my favorite system of all time. The Saturn doesn't touch it, but Saturn is very good, much better than I was raised to believe. I got one myself two or three years ago. I'm a big fan of Light Gun and Arcade Fighting games and Saturn does it very nicely, the stock controllers are the best for Fighting Games of any other system. That said, better than the N64, that's just subjective really. It's hard to say a system that barely made it past 1997 really deserves to be called better than masterpieces like Majora's Mask, Perfect Dark & Conker. Obvious the Saturn has no games that can compete with those. But Saturn is very nice. Using a watch battery instead of a memory card to save all game info is pretty funny too.

I actually visited Epcot Center in Spring of 1997 and fondly remember the Sega Expo Center, although I probably didn't get to stay for more than 30-45 minutes. I was ten years old at the time and spent most of my time playing an NBA Action '98 pre release version. That was my only experience with Sega Saturn in the 90s

The Saturn/Dreamcast were both really awesome in their own ways. The Saturn was quite a bit more expensive than N64 wasn't it?

N64 may not be considered one of the best overall consoles, but for sure one of the best party consoles.

Initially at launch the Saturn was $400, but by the time the N64 was launched, the price had dropped to $200, same as the N64 launch price.

Well how does the Saturn compare to the Plaything and the Pretendo? hee hee

PS: Interesting the Pretendo add said "you weren't worth waiting for" while around the same time we had absetience PSAs in our local area at the time ending with "you're worth waiting for". And I could sworn there was ads mockingly calling the N64(?) a "plumber box"...

This all leads to a great question in general-- what IS the greatest system of all time?

For me... yeah, I'm going to go with the PSX.

Saturn was a great party console IMO.  Six way Guardian Heroes, Virtua Fighter 2 matches all night long (winner stays), Virtua Cop 2 (I had two light guns for it too), 10 way Bomberman (although I never had enough friends to get ten at once).  Many consider the console exclusive Saturn Bomberman to be the best Bomberman ever made.

R-Zone has that one covered as well. I practically already have a Saturn.

Heh, I've seen footage of that. It's just a bunch of flickering red shapes.

Just to be clear I am not referring to the rail shooter, I am referring to the RPG game.

Panzer Dragoon Saga I would put right up there in the pantheon with the N64 greats - Mario 64, Zelda 64, etc. And NiGHTs isn't far behind.

In 96-97, the N64 was clearly the better system. The 3D was much smoother than the Saturn, which was really important back then. The N64 had some blockbuster single player games everyone was talking about, and two of the best multi-player games of the time. The good Saturn games were either obscure and hard to get, or stuck in Japan.

Looking back now, the 3D games on N64 mostly just look ugly, and the early 3D controls are very clunky (minus a few standouts). The N64 library has really lost its luster. Now with the Internet, it's much easier to find out about, and get your hands on great Saturn games that would have been amazing back then with a little more promotion (Powerslave I'm looking at you).

Both consoles aren't really my cup of tea. Heck the 5th gen as a whole is lacklustre.

ALso come on where's the Saturn Smash joke?

Does Saturn have Super Mario 64? If so, then.... I've been mistakenly playing N64 all this time.

Seriously though, N64 has Mario 64, WCW vs NWO, Wrestlemania 2000, Mario Kart, Smash, and Banjo. What else is there to say?
