When I saw the E3 trailer I though it was going to be a 3rd person shooter with platforming. Was not thinking twin stick at all. Really dissapointed.

Its just a regular case. The picture just shows the case opened up with the manual, cd and cart.

Should I preorder Downwell? My buddies that have played it say its quite fun, but the physical price is quite high considering. Is it worth what they're asking?

Considering it comes in premium packaging, which is really well done and a flip grip, this one is definitely worth the price, IMO.

I'm thinking the same thing. The game is $3 on the eShop and I already have a flipgrip, so $30 is steep for me. If they did a custom flipgrip, maybe I'd bite.

It actually has the word custom in the description but there's no explanation of what that means.

The flip grip is a tenner, so I think it's actually pretty fair of them, doing what they can to bring the price of the game itself to $20. If you collect for Switch and/or like the game, it's pretty decent. The value is there I think, especially considering the gouging that goes on with some other games.

Looking at the photo the custom part is that the orange part on the original flip grip is red to match the downwell packaging.

It's one of my favourite indie titles of all time, and I hold a bunch of records in it. It's a game of pure learned skill. As in, the first time you play it you will be dead within one minute for sure. Then you just learn the controls and the feel and strategy of the game, and it becomes amazingly fun. If you don't order the physical version at least get the digi for $3.
