yeah I know what you're talking about. I think it's if you slash on the same frame that you get damaged? Or maybe that's Castlevania I'm thinking of

IIRC: After you jump and slash, you can slash again after every time you press down.

If you just alternatingly wail on Down and B while airborne, you should get a few hits in.
