I've recently had a couple of requests from people looking to enhance games to add features that potentially should have been added in the first place.

These were:

  • Modify Super Mario Bros 2j to have 8 stars on the title screen from the start (Unlocking extra 4 worlds) (Dr Morbis request)
  • Add high score save support (battery backup) to Tetris (nikki request)

What I'm looking for is who would be interested in testing out these modifications (a PowerPak would be most useful, but I guess emulation testing would be good too). Also, who would be interested in having these made into repro carts?

Also, if anyone has any other mod ideas like the above, I'd be happy to entertain the ideas (yes I'm sad, but I find this fun!). Perhaps we could vote on the most popular ideas.

How about a save feature on Duckhunt, so you dont have to start all over again every F&*king time

JK, proabably not worth the trouble.

Other then having a emulator, I don't think I could be much help bro

How about a randomizer for boss fights in Mega Man games? That would certainly add a new element of challenge to it. No more beating it by the book.

I'd get that SMB2j repro, especially if you could select between original and simplified.

I'd like to see a 2p Tetris, like Tengen's but in the Nintendo style.

I've thought of other rad ones too... I'll let you know if I recall them.

Heres a tip for smb2j make that 8 star thing only when select is pressed. And yes fami bionic commando would rock. (wish I could translate it :-( I can do some nes programming but this is a bit too complicated for me stil) It doesn't HAVE to be translated....just saying it'd kick ass. That patch to make the us/euro one more like the japanese one stil doesn't put the enemys in the places they were in the original and stuff so ya.

Heck if you supply me with the homebrew tetris cart with save feature Ill play test it for you and mail it back to you with a list of bugs and issues if any found. Only payment Id want would be half price once all the glitches are worked out.

How about a Faxanadu cart that has a password/save feature that ACTUALLY works? I can't tell you how many times I've put an hour into that game, wrote down a password perfectly, and then come to find out it doesn't work.

And Sivak, Mega Man 1 is cake, I can run through it in under an hour no problem. If you think that GnG is easy though, my hat is off to you my friend. To this day I've never been able to beat it.

^^^ A save feature for Faxanadu would be a good way to go.

Hey James, I emailed Leon about the SMB2j repro... he's busy now but says to try again in two weeks. If it tests out okay I was going to have him make one for each of us... that is unless you're planning on making some SMB2j repros yourself. If you are, pm me and we'll talk

-------------------------

My mantra, as worded by SamSpade on 06/12/12:
I don't resell to fund my collection, I don't treat this hobby like a second job, I don't care if my collection is worth ten bucks or ten thousand because I never plan on selling it. Seriously, what does the value have to do with anything if you never plan on selling? Speculation doesn't mean jack shit to me at this point, I just want to play my nes games...

I was considering doing my own repros, but there doesn't seem to be the demand at this stage, so I'll probably just hand this to someone like Leon. I'm fairly sure the SMB2j one is 100% ready to go, the Tetris mod behaves a little strangely in 1 emulator, so I'm going to wait until I get a PowerPak to test how it goes on real hardware.

I'll probably email those people who showed some interest in testing later tonight.

As for the rest of the suggestions, the Tengen Tetris save seems reasonable. Not sure about the random MM bosses, Faxanadu save etc. At this stage I definately won't be doing anything that requires any new menus to be added or anything like that.

For GnG, arn't there any Game Genie codes available for unlimited lives or invincibility?
