Just picked up this Gamecube and was wondering what it was worth. For those without the power of Wiki, Flipper is the name for the Gamecube's GPU.

[Edit: one other thing ~ I noticed a switch in the back that looks like what you'd put in if you modded the system. Looks really clean, and I have no idea what it does (haven't had a chance to even test the system yet).]

[Edit 2: It is a region switch, and the system works great.]

Wow, that is really cool. Is something missing above "Nintendo GameCube"? How did you find this?

That is awesome! I've never seen one of these. Hopefully someone can provide some insight. Is this thing going to be for sale?

Not really sure if something is missing, but I don't think so. I could be wrong tho. It looks like a weird window or something, but it's tinted brown with some strange light refraction going on. (Or it's like clear copper.)

I bet it is the flipper gpu in raw format with out the shell in that square fitting. Also I second the question above, where did you find it?

Most likely to switch language.

Nintendo used the same BIOS in both America and Japan, with a jumper to set mode.
That was an official NTSC devkit feature (like NR Reader or NPDP) left disconnected by retail units.
Even Panasonic Q has it apparently.

Also that switch in the back is a region flip switch, it allows you to play jpn and USA games. I had an orange kiosk gamecube that had that same sort of switch on the back.

Yeah, I figured it was a region switch, but didn't know that they came like that on some official Nintendo Gamecubes.

Just gotta figure out a price for it. One which is hopefully at least double what I paid, LOL.

Might want to try it out first. This region switch is a substantial upgrade.

Actually changes the console's mode, letting imports play as designed.
Modchips and boot discs have glitches because some Japanese games don't like being forced to run at incorrect region.

No he didn't. If this had been the old CL, I'd have tried to talk him down b/c the amount he was wanting for what he thought was a regular Gamecube was stupid high. "Go call Pawn XChange and ask what they sell Gamecubes for then get back to me." But I knew there would be lots of interest in this, so I didn't even bother talking him down.

I'll try to test this out today and see about the switch. Thankfully, I still have a copy of Giftpia.

As for selling it, again, no one's even suggested a possible value on this so I'm still in the dark. If anyone wants to shoot me an offer tho, I'm consider whatever's sent my way.

Yeah no point in trying to talk sellers down on CL anymore as the competition has gone WAY up around here.

AS for a price, I got 200.00 for a loose NOA Region swiched Orange Kiosk with 1 controller so I would expect an increase on that for this. If you can get any history like contacting ATI or NOA and find more details that will definatly help the price go up.

I dont collect for the Cube anymore so I am out, but this is a very nice trophy piece for sure for the GC collector.

I just tested the system and it works with both U.S. and Japanese games using the switch in the back. Couldn't find my GC controller tho so I couldn't test the controller ports or anything. The OPEN button stuck the first time I tried it but it works fine now.

Thanks for the advice. If I had time to do an auction on here, I'd likely start bidding at $200. This has to be one of the rarer pieces of a collector is going to have, so I can't imagine it not being worth a little chunk of change. So I guess it's a good thing no one has a firm answer on what it's worth (since I can't imagine this has shown up too often or ever in the past).

That's a really neat and unique piece of history there. I'd think it would have to be worth at least a few hundred dollars going by previous comments in here based on modded systems. Someone doing a mod is just garage level type doings, but this here is something custom done by ATi from the look of it and being done professionally which I think would put it along with the stuff on top into a league all of its own. You could get a few hundred, maybe more, maybe less? I bet it would come down to interested parties and a possible bid war.

Awesome find, man. So the switch is effectively a region toggle... that's killer stuff as the Gamecube had a ton of great games that were Japanese only.

Someone will pay through their butt to score this off you.

Sold for $250. Had an offer of $300, but needed the cash to pay rent today.

I'm almost sad to see this go as it's likely the rarest item I've ever owned. Have to wonder how many of these were made.

There was no receiver when I got it. They were kinda jerking me around about what was and wasn't included, and wanted to charge an extra $10 for the controller so I guess they just kept the receiver w/ it. I didn't have the money and didn't really care at the time.
